Image Host will shut down, how to save (my) threads?

Recommended Posts

Happy new year everyone!

My image host stopped his upload service. As I use it for more than ten years, this will have a big impact on all my threads. I am for sure not the first one experiencing this. Anyone has any advice how to save the pictures in the threads without having to manually put in every picture again?

Sorry to hear.  This is why I don't have my pictures hosted anywhere.

@Willy iine: How do you do it? Upload here?

Yes, I only have like <2% attachment memory left all the time these days on TC..

This is why I started posting on instagram.. I have reels (video) over there too and pretty much endless data storage.. much wider audience.   #pretend_RC_shop

@wtcc5 I use Flickr. You can get a free account with no real drawbacks and plenty of storage and linking pictures to show here is super easy.

Plus Flickr has been around for a long time so don’t think it’s going anywhere soon…
<cue the immediate shutdown of Flickr> 😝

I used to use Photobucket until they started to become crappy and the images suffer quality loss because of too much compression. I switched to Flickr (more than 15 years ago) and just 5 years ago, Imgur. Both have been great.

@wtcc5 You can use both and start uploading pics there. But unfortunately, you will have to edit your posts and change the image links individually from the newer host. which will take a lot of time.

I use the free account provided on Tcphotos for subsribers to the main site of Tamiyacub.

+ 1 but you have to be a subscriber so not totally free. But pretty cheap and it helps fund the Forum which thankfully is still advert free unlike a few I’ve seen.

I went through this a few times as various free photo hosting sites started posting ads on top of my photos, started charging or deleting, or migrating photos to new frameworks breaking the links.  Alas, all my build threads are now missing the photos on TC.

I've reached the conclusion the only way to preserve images and maintain stable links is to pay for it.  Eventually I may register a domain name and pay for some low-level, minimal hosting just to keep a stable set of links for my photos and videos.  After a decade of this I don't see a better way to guarantee access to the content.
