After one year of great membership I got my first subscription renewal message this morning. I hit the link to payment instructions fast as lightning, followed the steps aaaand was stopped again by the same problem that occured when subsribing for the first time one year ago.

Why the badword do I have to enter some credit card information (which I do not have) for the money transfer? Believe me, I did zillions of paypal transactions in my life and I can cleary state that there are existing balances on my account, so why does it still ask for a credit card? If so, why is it not mentioned before in the subscription dialogue?

Ok, ok, I am aware of the 'pay for a friend' option (which I used for first subscription), but I ask myself why it has to be different from all other payment/transactions I did. I talked to other subscribers by mail or personally, and some of them had the same problem, so it can't be just me. Most of them did the same way as me by using the 'pay for a friend' option (which doubles the paypal fees paid for 2 transactions). [:(]

Chris, if there are safety reasons for that barrier, please let us know! Otherwise, I suggest to clearly state 'Although having a paypal account with existing balances, you still need a credit card to become a fully subscribed member' or something like that.

Hi

I've got no idea why this happens there is nothing in my code which requests it and I believe most members don't get it, if they have standing balances in their paypal account. There must be some sort of difference in the paypal accounts different people have - I don't really know enough about the way ebay works to say for sure. All the code from tamiyaclub does is bouce you off to paypal with the details of how much a payment is - there is nothing we do to specify which card that payment comes from.

If anyone has any ideas then I'll happily look into it.

yes - paypal thats what I mean (i do that a lot ;-)

What I don't get though is the "Pay For A Friend" system goes through exactly the same system and passes the same information to paypal and the normal renewal route? So I am really confused why one might work and the other prompt for more details?

The problem is with Paypals coding. When trying to pay for an ebay win using Paypal in Firefox it asked me for my credit card details. Thought maybe my credit card had expired and entered new details. Tried to pay using Paypal later and Paypal asked for details of a new credit card again with no option to choose a card already registered or to use funds in my Paypal account. Fired up Internet Explorer and tried paying in that instead. Worked fine.

I'm sure if I contacted Paypal about it they'll say its Firefoxs fault and Firefox will say its Paypals dodgy coding.

Your best bet is to find a mate who is willing to pay for you (must be a member already and have a credit card). Then contact Chris (NetsmithUK) to help you out with the 'pay for friend' option. Good luck!
