Since several years somekind of a project with cars like that has been in my head, but I was unsure about how to get sturdy spoke wheels with a narrow width. Actually these models are interesting but quite expensive. Will some derivate of them ever reach continental Europe?

I like the idea (in fact I think I even mentioned wanting something like this last year), dislike that it's just more limited edition crap.

I think it looks ace. Although never has an RC car needed a driver figure more.

I'm another who has thought of roughly this kind of body but I had in mind just jamming it onto a DT-03 or similar in a Dad and kid DIY stylee. A narrow buggy chassis is a sort of rough approximation, albeit nothing like appropriate when you get into the detail. It's pretty cool what they've done with springs, damping and steering there.

MSRP of $589 is way too much IMO.

It is a cool model though and I hope they will release a more accessible variant in the $300-400 range.

Apparently they are only available via snap on though as we’ve seen already they are already appearing on EBay at hugely inflated prices. I believe there have been other Snap On special editions in the past. I can’t believe that Traxxas would have produced this limited edition if there wasn’t future mileage in the chassis etc. Definitely needs a driver though in period clothes and helmet

I mean it's cool looking for sure but I agree with other, it needs a driver. Traxxas and its marketing is just a head scratcher for me. If they rolled that out to hobby stores at the $350 mark, they'd sell a ton of them. Special purchase through Snap On? I suspect they probably won't sell that much of them.

Disgustingly overpriced, limited availability, RTR only, no parts available to build your own from spares. Admittedly very cool, though.

Yeah, when I see these autonomous RC cars, it just looks so weird.    Definitely needs Willy on board.. but only if $350 range.  While I'm a SnapOn user (1:1 car stuff) I'm not THAT obsessed with them.

The most frustrating part is the parts-gatekeeping. This thing opens up so many possibilties for scratch-builds and modifications: hot rods, vintage dry-lake racers, even 1920s-30s Grand Prix cars. It's a really exciting prospect, and it looks like they did a really good job of engineering it. I'd probably end up buying 2 or 3 chassis' worth of parts over the next few years, half a dozen wheel/tire sets alone, if it was all available separately.

But if they want to keep it locked up, and only sell complete ready-to-run toys to a bunch of collectors who have no real interest in the hobby, then forget 'em.

(This isn't just a Traxxas complaint, by the way; I take issue with Redcat for a lot of the same thing, and most scaler/crawler companies too.)

Heck I'll take an RTR "toy" over this "collectors" stuff, you can part out an RTR and get some money back.

And the driver needs goggles and a scarf billowing out behind. Possibly the head of a toad a la Wind in the Willows.

I won't own one, but I won't own most things, so I'm just appreciating from a distance. I might be inspired by it though. As a thing in its own right, all the issues above notwithstanding, I think it's a joy to behold. Somebody at Traxxas should be applauded. Somebody else at Traxxas should be grumbled at.

I like how they did the motor to fit in the rear - keeps the back end narrow for time period specific cars.

Ultimately I think this could open up a world of 3d printed cars.  I'll bet somebody could 3d print the non-common parts of this for under $200.

Of course people are selling these at $1200+ on eBay..   lol.  Maybe at $350.

Its ‘rumoured’ to be $599 when/if the non Snap On one comes out. Bare in mind it comes with a Traxxas Lipo/Charger

If you built your own from spares, Traxxas would probably take you to court.

There's no way they engineered and tooled a model that concise without the intention of releasing it to a much wider audience.

Looks really cool. I like how the body attaches with hidden clips, it all seems very well thought out. Agree with the sentiment that it needs a driver figure though!

That was my gut feeling too. Maybe they are smart enough to release an Indy version before the 500? I could get behind oval racing with classic Indy cars.

From what I have been able to find, these had the TQi radio, regular EZ Peak Charger, and a 3000mAH 2s pack, considering that might include the Snap-On Tax, I could see $400-$500 for this off the shelves.

Not that it matters as this is in a category of its own, but was anyone able to determine what scale this is?
