Tamiya @ Nuremberg Toy Fair 2024- Speculation & New Releases

I'm sorry, but I simply can't stop whining about the new Tamiya Citroen DS. Meanwhile I've found the significant dimensions of the model and the scale varies a lot.

"Scale" is Tamiyas big thing, especially with this new MBT-01 chassis. I understand your confusion.

Wouldn't it have been better to use a BT-01 with MB01 suspension arms in the back? If, Tamiya makes the effort for different widths front and back.

When you look at the drawings there is indeed a significant difference. When I saw the running video of the model it didn't bother me.

I don't know if or how much the other models scale varies, I'm thinking about the beetle, 2CV, renault alpine, VW type2, fiat 131 and the all new Kadett?

The Beetle has undersized wheels and slightly longer doors, but otherwise it's very close to the real thing. It has some nice ABS hard plastic parts that keep it from being a "blob".

The 2CV has some bigger mold lines that ruin it, but more than anything the M05 does not replicate the handling characteristics of a real 2CV.

The Fiat 131 isn't that great, the wheels are tucked in way too much, bad chassis (MF-01X), it sits kinda weird.

The Alpine looks good, and both it and the VW Bus come on the M06 which isn't a half bad chassis.

Many Tamiya models, that seem to be "scale" at first glance, aren't scale If you look closer. Since decades ... 🤷🏼‍♂️

I know this is going to be a bit controversial but this has to be the most uninspiring Nuremberg toy fair I’ve ever seen:( other than Kyosho and Tamiya I haven’t seen anything from other prominent manufacturers?

Which other RC manufacturers usually attend?

Tamiya RC-models often are not the actual scale as "printed on the box" and that's nothing new at all, but at least the proportions tend to be very good. Apart from the "Comical" models, which of course and thankfully are deliberately out of proportions, I can't recall any other bodies than the 58036 Audi quattro and 58037 Opel Ascona with as poor proportions as the new Citroen DS. That's what bothers me and I don't at all have a problem with it not actully being 1/10 scale. One roughly consistent scale would have been nice though!

Schumacher, Mugen Seiki, X-ray, team associated, yokomo, hpi, team losi, etc, I’ve been looking back at old magazines and it looked like a real good event! Now i know a few manufacturers don’t exist anymore but I’m just remembering when the rc car magazines used to do in the march editions (always a month ahead) a Nuremberg special and all the manufacturers had their products on display probably for the like of associated and the Far Eastern manufacturers it was the European distributors that attended,

a fair few years back (2004 ish) we had in the uk a few years of a hobby show at the NEC in Birmingham and I attended every year they held it and it was looking very promising especially the final show and they’d split up the different elements of RC like cars in one hall helicopters and aircraft in another rc boats again in another etc etc even trains had their own area but like Everything in the uk at the moment because it wasn’t making massive profits quickly the promoters pulled it to concentrate on music events and the likes:( personally I think if they had stuck with it because the London toy fair was going because the venue was getting knocked down by developers it could have been a major event for our hobbies?

Wow. Didn't know that. I did go to the nec show in the early 90's. They had a clay off road track and I remember watching Phil Davies, Jamie Booth and Craig Drescher racing Procats....

Yeah good old days:wub: magazines and actual rc event's!  I remember from hpi savage years! The last year I attended I bought a performance exhaust from peko powerhouse and then from there I took my then small children to Cadburys world where they filled themselves up with chocolate and honked up everywhere in the back of my pride and joy focus ST……….oh lovely memories:rolleyes:

Absolutely. But you have to say it is absolutely impressive how good they are at it. Whether the ds chassis was the right choice or not is another question. But all the touring car shells in 257mm wheelbase, 251mm and 237mm are awesome (except the r390gt1 maybe)

Well, I caved in and pre-ordered another kit.

That's right, my little yellow Monkey is getting a brother! I really want the 1:1 scale baby-Honda, but I have 0 room in my life for a motorcycle of limited functionality, so I'll have to make due with the styrene versions.

Yes, it's common, but DS is quite extreme example, because the original has 3,1m WB, 1,8m width (with 1,5m track), but rear track width only 1,3m... It's nearly impossible to stretch that to a standard RC chassis. Even MB-01 stretched to 257mm wouldn't fit DS proportions, but it would be atleast a little closer.

Last night I started making a list of some of the models I would like to try to get my hands on, and there are loads that are unavailable. It’s a shame that Tamiya didn’t re-release any of these popular kits at Nuremberg.

How about the Honda City Turbo, Mountain Rider, Lowride Pumpkin, Isuzu MU, VW Wheelie Bus, Juggernaut 2, Jeep Wrangler and others?

I’m now sad again ☹️
