XM-01 comes out to 226 pounds, or $286.

So for $16 less, I could get a "Rally" Fazer and not have to worry about sourcing a body, servo, etc.

Then you should probably get a Fazer...

I think my wallet is safe too. The XM-01 Pro is rather nice looking though.

The Fazer works about as well as a rally TT02, though. Not a bad car or anything, just not a dedicated rally chassis. Definitely a good value. Have you seen the MST XXX-Rally?

I'm really feeling the DS, can't decide if I want to slam it or do a rally style build. The XM-01 is really interesting as well, but I'm going to wait to see what the price is first. Going to put the Yaris GR body on it if I end up getting one.

Where are the details of the Black Clod?  Is this a reissue of the “Limited Edition” one from a few years ago?

@tamiyausa says: "The Super Clod Buster “Black Edition” is being re-released in 2024!!"

I nearly bought one this past year, so I'm very glad I stayed on the fence!

He did it with our Renault 12 and only when my mother wasn't there. He preferred French cars, so we didn't have a Kadett but the neighbours had a red one.

Hilariously, this just made me pull the trigger on a grey one

If Tamiya had put the body on the BT-01 chassis, 1:12 scale would have been possible, and it would probably be enough space to get the proportions correct too.

I agree, having seen a few DS's in person it should've been on the BT-01. Its not entirely a "small" car, its just really low to the ground.

I'm admittedly not sure what makes a "dedicated rally" chassis different from a modified touring car.

The MST has a nice body, kinda looks like a sturdier Fazer/TT02 underneath.

I was looking for a basher, and the xm-01 at least makes me curious. Is the 959 on M-chassis size? Then it's one of the few bodies which I can think of which really looks the part on a raised M-chassis.

Yeah, the XM-01 has got to be a prime for a re re 959 on this chassis!

You and me both.  I almost pulled the trigger twice on reasonably (yet still over original) priced SCBE's... so I'm glad I held off.

I think I acquired something like 9-10 Black Edition cars/kits over the last year, so it was inevitable to get one of these. Close call!

The biggest things are increased suspension travel and the ability to have higher ground clearance. The XV suspension, for example, uses TRF 501 and 201 parts.

The MST uses gullwing suspension arms for ride height, and 60mm shocks for travel, and includes a finished Tamiya bodyset. It’ll smoke a Fazer on rough surfaces.

I see, so a "proper rally" chassis has more suspension travel and some level of enclosure/chassis cover to keep crud out, good to know.

If the Fazer is anything like the TT-02 off-road, there's definitely an argument for buying an XV over one, on top of the XVs having hop-ups from the get-go (I think most Fazers come with plastic driveshafts and such).

I have a TT-02 that's about as "rally" as one can get without extensive modding, with metal axles and longer shock eyelets. It's definitely better as a "dusty tarmac" touring car.
