I'm admittedly not sure what makes a "dedicated rally" chassis different from a modified touring car.

The MST has a nice body, kinda looks like a sturdier Fazer/TT02 underneath.

The ability to have a small amount of ground clearance is one

I was kind of hoping for a DT-04 myself.

959 on M-chassis

I think (hope?) we might see an XM01 pro on yellow wheels and with the 959 body for Tamiya's 50th. I would like that.

While the Black Clod is a fantastic version, it seems a bit lazy from Tamiya. If Tamiya insists on making no changes to the Clod than at least introduce a new colour that has not been done before. I would have been impressed if the re re Black Clod had some new materials ex: carbon fibre, aluminum etc.

Can somebody at the show ask Tamiya why they gutted their official website in the last week and rolled out something else in its place that wasn't ready for prime time?

Search function doesn't work for anything at all, and most importantly the monthly history of new releases with part numbers for like the last 10 years is gone - this is a great reference and should be restored.

Well, it depends on how much modified the touring car is, even TRF can become a dedicated rally car 😀

This build, XVs, XM and MST-XXX rally have one thing in common - front weight bias, which helps with steering on loose surface. Simply lifting a touring car doesn't make it a dedicated rally car

47497-600 Squash Van GrnWhi PB (GF-02) RRP £385.00

Tony at TTP thinks this price may be an error on Tamiya UK's part, so he's raised the question with them.

I noticed that the XM-01 uprights are quite similar to M-07.. Who is going to built an M-07Ra? 😁

It has to be an xm-01 with a 959 body surly? Pre order going in me thinks 🤫 don’t tell the wife 🤪

I ended up ordering a XM01 from tamico. The shipped un taxed price is £223 so even with VAT it coming in around £260/£270 so that's a decent saving IMO. Can't decide if I I want to go brushed or brushless on this build.

I'm currently between either a GR Yaris or a Stratos for the body.

I love the concept of a dedicated rally chassis for the M series, so its thumbs up from me for the new xm01 platform. I am little concerned about the off road behavior due to the short wheelbase.

Me too.

I would think once terrain and expectations are scaled down in line with the difference in size (c.10%), it should be as good as a TC sized dedicated rally chassis.

For me, I am looking forward to building up an XV-01/2 with a ride height in the mid-high teens mm. Having tried higher and lower than this I have a feeling there's a nice sweetspot in there for "light rally". This makes me interested in 13mm on an M chassis, also 8mm for sort of "dirty tarmac". Good heights IMO.

I'm wondering whether it would be possible to put normal 1.9 wheels and Rally tires in this XM-01 chassis. Would love to build it as a Jimny, as the MF-01 chassis never pleased me.
And I love the Jimny body :-)

I think space is a bit too limited, especially with the inner fenders mounted but bigger wheels/tires will probably limit the turn radius as well. Hard to tell already from the few available pictures.

I have been looking at 1" crawler tires, although some are very soft they aren't a million miles away from a m chassis sizes.

I’m actually more interested in this than some of the car releases :D

Check out the prices at Tamico. Their price for the new pre-painted Squash van is only a little more than the standard version. If that UK price is correct (which I guess it isn’t) then people would be better off buying from Germany (which is actually true for many of the kits anyway).

Yep, for that kit in particular it's so far off the standard kit price it has to be an error I think.
