Tamiya @ Nuremberg Toy Fair 2024- Speculation & New Releases

Recommended Posts

With less than a week to go until the Nuremberg Toy Fair where Tamiya typically announces most of it's R/C releases for the year I figured I'd start a thread for announcements made and to keep speculation in one place.

Anyone want to place some predictions below? Last year will be hard to top with the BB-01 release but I'm hopeful we'll get at least one new platform in addition to the typical new bodies and re-releases. Just taking a shot in the dark, I'm predicting a new body option for both the BT-01 and MB-01, hopefully another Group C Re-Re (Please be the 787B!), a Baja Bug or Short Course truck on the BB-01 platform, and a new TRF touring car.

I'm going to say a re-re-re of the Avante 2011, plus some changes or new models on the TD2/TD4 platform.  Most likely a TD4 update.

TB-06 for me, please 😀 Or 4WD variant of M07/8

Realistically, there will be probably some new kit on MB-01/MF-01 and BT-01/TT-02

Im expecting another MB-01 body option or two (maybe a super duper pro version), the BT-01 official release (I mean, some youtubers already have their freebies!), and some XV-02 variant.

More on-road cars that aren't much above "motorized models", with more "road going" variants of old body shells.

I don't expect Tamiya to make a "proper" short course truck, that's more of an American thing. But it would be nice to see the TA02T trophy trucks return (and on the TA02, not crudely fitted onto a touring car chassis).

I'd like to see (but don't expect) more models with bearings, shocks, some body shells of American cars, and more re-releases just to help out anyone doing restoration projects.

It'd be really nice to see an older Ford GT40, or just any of the older race cars that aren't covered at the moment.

I’m thinking an XV-02T, hopefully with a Toyota body, rebodied TD4 and TD2, and no all-new chassis. Maybe some sort of TD R spec.

Wishful thinking, another run of the Super Astute and (finally!) a King Cab rerelease.

In addition to what I think we may get in my post above, my "wishful thinking" car would be a return of the Dyna Storm  B)

On the newer side of things, I feel like an alternate body on the BB-01 is a given at some point in the next year or two, as is a new body for the TD4 platform.  I'd love to see the TD2/TD4 get the "R/RR/RRR" treatment as well... seems like an easy marketing exercise as the parts required are already out there.  Maybe they could go CRAZY and do the wheels in a colour that actually matches the paint/stickers?  ;)

On the rere front, I feel like the Bullhead is ripe for a comeback... and I'm surprised we haven't really seen more of the 2wd come back.  Another Super Astute or DynaStorm run perhaps?

I'd love to see the Avante 2001 rereleased... purely because the naming convention would be ridiculous... Tamiya Presents the Avante 20012024.....

RC Gods may hear you. I'm in a need for a third Monster Truck.

I am always hoping that Tamiya do a Juggernaut of some flavour, be it in a new iteration or a re-re Jugg 2. I’d say the market would lap it up just now as I think there’s still a fairly strong retro racing scene in the states and a Jugg would be appreciated and possibly add some spice to a sea of Clods. Loads of other buyers would be at the ready too for scalers and bashers.

I hope that they will continue their strategy of classic racing and rallye cars. Especially models that were released as static kits 1/20 and 1/24 many years ago, turn them into 1/10 RC cars. Just like the Fiat 131 - released as 1/20 static kit in 1980, finally released 2023 as a RC model.

  • maybe a Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, already released as 1/24 static kit 24054
  • maybe a BMW 320 Group 5, static kit 1/24 24002 from 1977
  • maybe a BMW 635 Group A, 24061 from 1986
  • maybe a Ford Sierra RS 500,  24080 from 1989

Maybe a re-release of the Volvo 850 on TT-01E or TT-02 chassis.

If there are interesting developments coming on either TD or BB-01, then personally I'd be quite excited about that. I think both of those have interesting potential and it'd be nice to see them taking these two new platforms in some new directions. I'm unlikely to buy either as a new kit but the scope for tinkering with my BBX or TD4 could interest me.

Especially something like a bug shell on the BBX I reckon could benefit from the mods I've already done.

I’m always hoping Tamiya will bring back the classic Mini (with little chance).

I second that. Even the body re releasing the body shell would be enough for me.

Yes, another run of the Super Astute is really what I would love to see.

I'd like to see the following:

  • Re-release of the original Astute.
  • TD-4 Super Egress (hopefully without having to dis-assemble the front end of the car to get the battery out).
  • A Retro Class Clodbuster with all reinforced plastics and a carbon retro style chassis. Tamiya could really capitalize on the Clod retro racing scene....

You know what I want to see? A Striker re-re. Why? Why not?

I think we'll see another body for the CC-02, probably representing a vehicle that has IFS in real life.

Renew licensing with BMW, so we can have BMW and Mini bodies again.

We have had some new M chassis bodies, eg: lotus Ford Escort, Fiat 131. Let’s hope they continue. I’d like to see an Alfa 4C, a cayman GT4, etc.

I am liking all the thoughts about TD2/TD4 models.

I really would like to see a rerelease of the Super Astute. But I would also be very happy if Tamiya put another Zahhak production run together.

I can’t help but feel that this year might be a little light on new releases.
