Would a TBLE 15.5t motor be too hot for the XM01?*

*asking for a friend. 😬

In my humble opinion, this should work without any problems. I am going to run my XM01 with a 10.5t motor.

Thanks. How do you think the xm01 would be as a road car? I'm hoping it could be like a 4wd M07/8?

My hopes exactly, strengthened by the XV-02 road version tamiya did a couple months ago and the similarities between the XV-02 and XM-01.

With the center diff and adjustable ground clearance, I think it could make a very good road car. 🙂

I'd go for the slipper if it's onroad.

The assembly has made progress and I am now halfway through the instruction manual.

The servo, receiver and controller are installed and connected. In my case, the space provided for the receiver and controller is sufficient. After initial skepticism, I think the battery holders are OK. Only the standard batteries (racing packs) fit in, but I don't think that's a bad thing.
Since I would also like to use TC wheels, I moved the front suspension forward by 3mm. Normal TC wheels actually fit now, only the TC rally block tires are a bit too big.

Now I need to adjust the body and then I'm looking forward to the first drive. 🙂

The car drives really well, I'm very happy with it. When I was putting it together, I noticed one small thing that bothers me personally: to install the rear body mounts socket head cap screws have to be used. I don't understand that. They spoil the look and require a 2.5mm hex screwdriver. Maybe Tamiya don't have normal (button head) 25mm hex screws in their range?

Surely you can just change them?

One of the first things I do is replace button head screws with cap heads, they are less likely to strip and are generally stronger. Aesthetically they might not be as nice but are definitely an improvement IMO.

Yes, I just ordered some non-tamiya 25mm button head screws. Let's see if I like them better.

Interesting, I had never thought about that before.

They also tend to be mucher cheaper as well, I'm paying about £0.02 per screw from a screw wholesalers. They are all 12.9 steel which is strong enough for RC applications.

I know you're in Germany but orbital fastening are who I use, sadly I'm pretty sure they only ship within the UK.

So, I could buy this:

https://tamico.de/Tamiya-58738-XM-01-Pro-Chassis-Kit-110

And there’s a Porsche 959 Body I can buy that fits? What about Rothmans/Racing decals? And wheels? Any links?

This?

Mci for the decals, I’m currently doing the l&l 959 shell for my xm-01

I need to source the body first. Either a 959 or a Mini Cooper whatever is easiest

The L&L (team C) mini body is probably the best out there (still not as good as the OG Tamiya one). The Phat one is ok however not that realistic IMO and avoid the ones with windscreen wipers moulded in as they are 💩

You could also go for a lancia stratos?

With the surge in M-chasiss bodies and Tamiya recently releasing a few new Porsches for the1/10 cars let's hope we'll see a Tamiya 959 for M chassis cars shortly.

I'd still rather they re released the original mini over anything else 😕

I agree. I have the Phat Bodies Miglia Mini body and it is okay, but Tamiya shell would undoubtedly be much nicer.

I also have a couple of other Team C shells, and they are quite nice, but not again as high quality as a genuine Tamiya.

I’ve had the Phat Bodies Mini on an M08 for a good few years now and is very durable though.

I doubt the Tamiya Monte Carlo Mini spot lights would last 5 minutes on a XM-01 😉

Just cut a Giulia out for mine, debating whether to use the kit rear body post’s that will put the clips on the roof, or use TT02 posts in the backside of the mount so they come through the window as per M06 🤔
