Finally cut out the fiddly inner mud guards. Care and patience is definitely needed for the rears 😅

As they are cut around the body posts that could be the deciding factor to use the kit ones or TT’ ones on the other side. I could make the post cut out both sides but probably wouldn’t be very secure. Or just leave them off if using the TT posts. Still haven’t drilled the holes for either way in the body yet 😬

Wow - you really did a great job cutting it out. I've avoided it until now. It seemed impossible to do. But now you've proven that it's possible, so I'll try it one day.

A little over kill however will look nice next to the model, I've also done one for the M01,3R &5 Pro

This was my first attempt at printing with a 0.2mm nozzle and it turned out ok.

looks like it fits fine

Is it safe having that red cable running between the fins on the heatsink? Or would we have to get creative with the wiring?

Should be OK @Gebbly, the wires are virtually touching the motor anyway without the heat sink.
It was however thrown in, in a hurry to just to see if it fits.

Most of the teaser photos I’ve seen they are often touching as well. I’m thinking a bit of foam tape or extra insulation on the wire wouldn’t be to difficult if you need to.

The 959 is slowly taking shape, I don’t remember spending this much time on the original shell back in the day 😁

What lipos are you guys running? Mine is almost done but I noticed that my Lectron Pro 2s won't work because there's no room for the balance cable.

Yours appears to be going better than mine, I'm thinking of using black vinyl/wrap for the black parts as opposed to painting it. Is yours a L&L?

One thing. This is the XM-01 PRO! Is there a non “pro” version due?

I'm affraid that there won't be a non-pro, similarly to XV-02. The role of cheaper 4wd rally chassis is taken by MF-01X.

I wonder for how much longer, they seem to be pushing their new MB-01, while it's not a rally car with the M05 being discontinued perhaps Tamiya are considering ending the M03-MF-01X era of cars. When did they last release a new body on the MF-01X?

The last one was Rally Olio Fiat in November. It's weird that the new Kadett body got released on MB-01.. we will see if there will be a re-release on a rally chassis.

@Alex97 My fault. I thought the rere of the Golf Mk1 was a few months ago, apparently it's more than a year already.

I know there has been an XV-01 pro chassis kit and there are XV-01 kits with a body included. So maybe (hopefully) they do the same with the XM-01PRO.

By checking this I found out there has been an XV-01 pro touring car also (58588) that I totally missed.

No worries, part support will last for a few more years however their budget M chassis will be the MB-01 going forward. They missed a trick not making it 4wd or at least letting you buy the parts to make it 4wd. The initial reviews weren't that great unfortunately. I'd still go for an M07/8 over the MB-01.

It's clear with the XM-01 + MB-01 that Tamiya want more reuse between their models , this is something I fully support as it's only better for the end users.

Back on track, I finally got the plaque printed, I also printed one for the M03...

Tried to install the #42300 DCJs that were in my M05 before I sold it. As @Honza suspected, they don't fit in the XM01 uprights. I installed them in my M03 instead. 🙂

For the XM01 I think you need the #42312 DCJs from the M07/08 chassis with 5x10x3 bearings and different axles. They cost at least €50 and I consider that a luxury that I will only treat myself to at a later date.

M07 DCJs are 33mm. So they won't fit either.

I think that you can use M-05 DCJs in combination with #42218 TRF axles - those are used on M-07 DCJs, with 3mm that co 1050 inner bearings as you've suggested.

I was looking at these last night, thanks for the heads up. We've seen Tamiya fit these so I wonder what they had to do in order to make them fit. Could removing material from the hub to make them fit?

Taking a look at M05 V2-R and M-07R shows:

- 3mm 1050 for hubs

- Complete M-05 DCJ set, since swing shafts are not available separately

- #42218 wheel axle (stock M-07 uses same #51445 axles as XM-01). The combination should work, since both DCJ sets use same #42219 joint pipe.
