The XM-01 fanbase or general info on this new pro chassis 58738

Recommended Posts

Finally got my XM-01, but lots in line ahead of it. Like many here, I'll be building it for a 959 runner so that my original can remain a shelfer.

Dropped the hammer on mine today. Was on the fence (whether to get it now or wait until I could pretend it was for my b-day in September and not just weak-willed "new chassis lust") and then it hit me- as a new chassis it'll take a little time for the aftermarket to ramp up and I could justify the purchase as an 'investment' and get CF damper stays and such to market before the usual suspects. Might even get it to pay for itself eventually... :D

If your quick MCI Racing are 20% off for this long weekend, maybe the TGB 959 body through them qualifies 🤔 Just a thought.

CF damper stays you say for an XM-01? nice 👌🏻

Swapped out the plastic Spur gear holder  for an Aluminium one. Nice little 5 minute job for longevity.

Yeah, that 20% is deeper than their usual 15% but having blown my fun money budget for the moment I'll have to wait for their Labor Day or "Random Tuesday in August" sale (they seem to have one about every six weeks). My next order from them is going to involve several cars so I have to prepare for that wallet dent.

Tried to install the #42300 DCJs

Is the steering limited with the included universals? Or you just like the smootness of the DCJ's?

Personally I think the stocks are ok however DCJ will always be better.

The universals supplied are absolutely fine. However, I have found in other cars that the DCJs in the front axle can be a noticeable improvement.

While I was sorting and cleaning up my RC parts the other day, I found some brand new DCJ parts with 42mm shafts that I had intended for my XV01 some time ago. 🤔😀 I decided to put them in my XM01 instead. So I ordered the 30mm shafts, assembled the DCJs and installed them today in my XM01. They now fit perfectly. Looking forward to the next practice laps. 🙂

I don't suppose you have the part numbers?

Well, I can think of two options:

1. DCJ Set 42300 plus 42218 axles plus two 5x10x3mm bearings as @Honza suggested.
2. DCJ Set 42216 or 42312 plus the 30mm DCJ shafts 19804932.

The 19804932 shafts are only sold separately by a few retailers, so the first option may be the right one for most people.

Nasty, ugly, too fat pattern in the CF, but it was the only 3mm thickness I had on hand.  Can't wipe the smile off my face, first cut perfect fit- that never happens. I do have the center cut out in the design similar to the XV-02 unit, but I got impatient and stopped the run as soon as the parts were ready to remove. I'll get some proper Tamiya 1mm weave ordered and these'll be available for public consumption in a couple weeks :)

@Wystan Withers. That is looking superb in my eyes and would be a must have for many. BTW what are those nice mesh wheels you have there? These would look fab under both the Golf MK1 or MK2 body.

Homebrew modular idea I've been working on. Sharp eyes will note the three lug nuts ala' Renault as these are meant to correct Tamiya going the easy route and not making a new wheel when they introduced the Jagermeister livery on the A110. The center disk is a separate piece for easy painting/swapping.

Looking good and a bright idea. I give you a new one,  that would be ultra correct on the lovely A110: Tramont or Gotti. Also often used on Golf in the 90s on more costy projects in Germany.

Thanks for the Info, how did you find PN of the swing shafts? I went through several documents and couldn't find it 😃

I can see a 3rd option - 19804932 + 42218 + 42219 + 42221 (not sure if it's cheaper option than modifying the whole set or not)

If I remember correctly, I first searched on Google for "tamiya double cardan joints 30mm shafts" and found the shafts on a Dutch (the-border) and a Japanese (g-works-inc) website. Then I thought if they exist as separately sold items, Mr Seidel must have them too. When it comes to Tamiya parts, it's an excellent German address: www.modellbau-seidel.de
The website is a kind of Tamiya encyclopedia. I searched for "30mm" and found, among other things, our DCJ shafts. Two days later I had them on my desk. 🙂

Any kit which was offered in XB would have had finished bodies, so I assume there would have been a service part available at one time.

Not sure how far they ship to in Europe, but they don’t ship to Australia unfortunately when I’ve emailed them.

They did have some hard to find discontinued Tamiya bodies shells listed when I looked a while ago (Mini included). Might still be there?

I know it's a shame. They are a bit oddball and perhaps seem a bit old-fashioned. They don't even use cookies on their website! 🙂

Tamico ships abroad and they got the shafts in stock too: https://tamico.de/Tamiya-19804932-Antriebswellen-30mm-2-M-05verII-R

Finally had the chance to run my XM-01 on a dirt track yesterday, and the rear end was a bit looser than I'd like. Do any of you have a source for softer springs that will fit these mini shocks? I'm in the US, but I don't have a problem with ordering from overseas.
