I’m currently building one of these for our local fun Tamiya class.

I’m going to build the car in the low setting as it’s an indoor carpet track. Anyone here done that?

Also has anyone mounted a 30t pinion with the 70t spur gear in the car? I know the instructions go up to 29t but that’s probably because Tamiya doesn’t make one?

As to the body, I’m going to run the  nsu as it’s cheep and 239wb should be quite easy to drive.. Anyone know if it will fit?  Those towers look high.

Yes however you'll struggle to get sub 8mm with the standard shocks without adding a lot of washers.

The NSU body only really works with the smaller tires that are included in the M05 kit, regular M chassis tires will rub the wheel wells.

Cheers, I will be running the Sweep wheels and tyres which are small, so hopefully they will fit the NSU.. As to the shocks, I will have a play, I have M-Chassis big bores, SSBB's and USBB's here to choose from if needed. I'm enjoying the build so far.. I'm not going mad on hop-ups infact none for the initial build. It's going to be hard to resist.. but I want to try it stock (ish) first.

If they're 55mm or smaller they should fit, just don't make my mistake and trim the body posts prematurely!

I had an NSU shell that saw some asphalt races on an M05 chassis and ran standard S grip tires. The wheel wells had a lot of tire rub (some aluminum tape might help prevent this), but the body looked like it had held up well otherwise.

On a side note, it'd be interesting to see you run your MB-01 at the track. Even if it's much more entry level.

I’ve been tempted to take mine and test out of the track, but then I look at the beautiful Fiat 131 body, and I don’t have the heart to get a scratched up. I don’t have a lot of other bodies that are 239.. so I’d have to switch it to 225 to test it out with the track.

Still sitting on the fence re getting one of these. I really want one but only way I can justify it is if I can fit a truly amazing body that is from a genuine 4x4 car. I love the Alpine and Alfa and Escort but obviously all are RWD.

What I really want is to do a 959. I see a few have been started but don’t know which of the repro bodies actually fits and how it looks when completed. I think one brand is too narrow for the M chassis.

Are there any completed 959s out there?

I have the TB 959 sitting on my Top Sabre Mini 4WD. I believe it should fit the XM01 with no issues. I don’t think it’s wider than the TOP.

The shell arrived today, looks like it will fit thanks to the sweep wheels being tiny :) The chassis is built and  to be honest it looks very promising for a 4wd M-chassis. Although there  are a couple of little 'Quirks' I've noticed.. Now I need to decide what colour to paint it.. I might go Metallic pink and black.. or something similar.. bright is key for tiny cars

Yes. Always have been a fan of the 959 and argued to buy a used one but.... to many obstacles, price etc.

So I picked up the XM-01 back in July at the Tamiya Store in Tokio. Then scanned the forum for advise and ideas. At the end I went with the following:

XM-01, Tamiya ESC and Brushless Motor, Hops Ups, Body is from Canada (Bluegroove), Decals+Wheels+Bodykit (MCI) as well, Cockpit from US (Radical Retro RC)

As this is a shelf queen, I added lighting, printed roof rear light myself for function and also added a magnetic connector between Body and Chassis for the lighting and easy connection.

For painting I strictly followed  @Truck Norris just such an awesome Job... and succeeded somehow but learned a bunch of ideas, tricks and advise. I recommend to read first before painting.

With the XM-01 I got back into the RC cars. I was building trucks since 2020 but with the Tamiya Store Visit I am now more into cars.

So for my fist approach after a long time I wanted to make some extra effort. And I am to 95% satisfied.

Issues were: Cutting the body (a little bit tooo much), Painting is a challenge, but fun, see above. Chassis is straight forward. Decals I could have also done better. But now I also have my 959 and happy about.

Hope that helps and I recommend to do a special project once in a while. It is just so much fun.

That looks absolutely fantastic. It sits really well on the chassis and you have done a great job with the body. I am inspired to give it a go. Great to discover what Radical Retro offer as well.

Final form achieved, almost ready for public consumption. Got greedy with feed speeds and broke all my 1.5mm bits, so I've got to wait for Amazon Santa to make the rounds...

Found this on a FB page, someone fit arms from XV-02 to create a chassis for the Corolla body.

What is the difference between the tread of an XV01 and a XM01 with XV01 arms?

would be great to see the body on it. Are there more photos?

Nice to see that someone has actually done this. It's now an XM01 "LA". I wanted to try this too and turn my XM01 into an XM01 "B" with a buggy body. All the XV02 parts I would need would cost €60-70. Unfortunately my 2024 annual RC budget was no longer enough for that. Maybe I can realize my plan this year.

XV-02 has 7mm longer driveshafts, so it's around 14mm.

There is photo with the Celica body, but when I tried to upload it, it failed.
