I believe that they are 30mm CVDs

Agree. With a track width of 165mm, it is 15mm narrower than the XV02. As the XV02 has 37cm shafts, the 30mm shafts could fit. I am thinking of the nice 30mm Double Cardan Joints 42300. 🙂

not a fan of the gaps in the chassis

They caught my eye when I saw this video too, nothing some duct tape won't cure. Or a fancy underguard could be fabricated :D

It seems to be a nice step forward from the MF01X-

It should be, when it costs nearly three times as much 😃 But you get a proper rally car for the price, unlike MF-01X

It looks like there's a lot of potential for it to go even faster. The stock setup seems to be a bit jumpy and it understeers quite a lot on this tight track.

I think there will be limited mounting points under the chassis too screw an under guard.

From that video I think double Carden drive shafts are a good upgrade!

It would be nice if the manual + compatible upgrade list was released.

When you take so many steps back with the MF01X, many things are a step forward!

Hey! Mine are things of beauty 😃

But they do need a few cheap fixes to really work. Would have loved a front motor version!

Sure,  the new one will smoke these in every way, but I still rate it as a solid versatile chassis, even with a few quirks/faults

I wish Tamiya had released a Pumpkin kit like yours, vs the "Lowrider Pumpkin", it probably off-roads a lot better with bigger wheels!

Thanks! The main issue with the Pumpkin is that in stock form the arches are really unforgiving for larger wheels. I had to trim a lot off the make these fit, which means smaller wheels or jacked up bodies.

Perhaps 70mm racing truck tires would have worked?

This one has TL01 arms, much softer suspension, and yes, it off roads pretty nicely.

Yes please, ASAP please. Some YouTubers have their kits so it's readily available. Not yet to the general public

CompetitionX channel has unboxing video, where they listed through the manual. I think that release info contained some info about compatible upgrade parts, mostly ones that are shared with XV-02 - differentials, steering, suspension mounts. Double cardan will be probably combination of M-05 DJC swing shafts and M-07 wheel axles.

With them being 30mm I reckon 42300 would be correct.

Yes, but uprights appear to be derived from M-07, which is 1mm shorter. So it may require a shim or axle from M-07 DCJ

So it seems that they're reused the M03 axels on this.

Interesting, it would mean that its uprights wouldn't be compatible with M-07. No M-07Ra then 😭

Looking in the manual shown in competitionX video, it does seem that it re-uses older type of swing shafts with wrong geometry from M-03 set. But wheel axles are the newer type with retainer springs - have Tamiya ever released an universal set that would use those axles on M-xx, TT-02 or others?

It weird that they even show M-03 universals as an option, since it already comes with universals, but it doesn't show M-05 DCJ set.

competitionX

It is about the only one that featured the XM-01 already. Seems not the most exciting release? I've seen at least 5 different channels showing some big scale Crawler the last days but finally a non super limited 4WD M chassis from Tamiya and no one seems to care 🥺

If they'd of released it with a rally body then I reckon there would be more noise around it. The MF01X Escort was very popular when first released as everyone wanted the escort body. If they'd have released this with a 959 body I reckon everyone would be talking about it.

I really like the option of adjusting the ground clearance. Reminds me of my MF01X.

That's why I thought that it's uprights would be useful for Rally conversion of M07/8, if it fits. Hopefully it'll work better than MF-01X 😃
