admittedly the landmark in my photos is obscure and not the sort of world famous landmark I'd like to have entered. It was more of a showcase for my Desert Gator to be honest and when I entered the competition entries were very short and I felt could do with the boost. I'd like to have had Blackpool Tower, Buckingham Palace, Angel of the North or some other great true landmark. But I'm not driving hundreds of miles to do it. In my defence though, I've thought about it, done some research, and bothered to take the photos and enter. Quite clearly I'm not going to win, but I've enjoyed entering and Isn't that what it's all really about? The more the merrier, if entries had approached 100 then I'd happily have deleted my own to make space for more, but I think the competition is more interesting with a bit of promotion for some of our local landmarks too. Good luck to all - I've enjoyed watching the entries coming in - some are incredible.

well i drove a 132miles to take my pics which for me was the equivilent to 400mile plus when i was fit , the picture i thought was to show the landmark and rc equally but i didnt write the rules. to be totally honest with you the pics look like a beach and headland shot, i couldnt see what you described in the pic maybe because the pic has been reduced by the club site cause ive blown it up an i just cant see it no offence is intended

I think this is being taken far too seriously by some, it's only an R/C car at stake! I would also say a Landmark doesn't have to mean a place known all around the globe. To be fair Conrad, your landmark isn't exactly known the world over!

As Chris originally wrote: "So this gives you even more reason to take your models on holiday with you" Isn't this what the contest is about? (I couldn't get a holiday this summer- so I had to take my pic locally[:(] )

You are right this is supposed to be fun. To be fair I think people seem to get worked up on both sides of the argument though. Those that want it more serious and those that want it more relaxed. If the prize is not worth getting worked up about (which i agree) then doesn't that mean neither side really need complain? If something is let in you don't like then why worry (unless you think it going to beat you) and likewise if you are kicked out, you are not losing much/anything. But in reality both sides take it very serious and personal (taking the time to post here proves it)

I'm really getting a bit tired now with all this bickering on all sides - my life was so much simplier when we just never gave anything away and I'm seriously thinking about going back to those days. I could just as easily stop the competitions and just keep the kits myself, as they are mostly in lieu of hard cash for advertising as opposed to real donations to give away on site. The only reason I don't is that thankfully 90% plus of those that enter think the same way as me. They appreciate the chance of getting a chance to win a new kit (regardless of its value), they ask about the rules etc before entering, they are happy to let me make judgement calls on their entries. I never delete any lightly or for fun or for a power trip. I never leave entries because "they are a popular member","they are mates of mine" or "I prefer uK based ones"

The competitions have rules - all competitions do and those rules apply to those that enter. If you don't like them then don't enter. There will always be more competition later which you may want to enter. The rules also state (as do all of them) - ask questions first, life would be so much easier if people did, I don't want to waste anyones time going to the back of beyond and getting shots that are not eligible. The idea behind this competition is I wanted photos to show 'recognisible' places from around the world, either by it being famous or by being next to a sign simply saying where it was, (I specifically put this in for those members that couldn't drives miles or were not close to recognisable land marks). Those that I don't feel do that were removed no matter how good or interesting the photo was. They are still in the showrooms so people still see them, leaving them in would have made a bit of a waste of time making the rule up in the first place (and if we go down that route then every competition becomes a generic 'nice photo' comp. The rules try and stop this and give them a theme. We want people to enter but the rules are rules. Your photo maybe great, but if it doesn't fit it needs to be saved for another competition. Number of entries, doesn't change the rules, if there are only a few then thats cool, it means those that took the time have more chance, which is only fair.

All of that said the buck stops with me (again as it states) and I'll decide, based on my own thoughts and also emails I recieve for and against certain entries. The main part of the rules for this competition for me was

-------------

There has to be something in the image that definately places the picture. If in doubt just drop me an email first and ask.

.....Also not allowed is a picture of your model in some place impossible to determine, ie in the middle of sand, claiming to be the Sahara Desert or sounded by trees claiming to be in Sherwood forest.

-------------

Basically I wanted photos that if I showed them to someone in isolation (probably of the country they came from) they could say - "yes I know where that is", as opposed to "is that somewhere down south?"

I'll be glad when this ones over. Apologies to Modelsport that it has all got so bogged down in petty arguments.

The entries are now closed and because of this I'll take a day or two to decide the final cut before voting starts.

Well said Chris, and please don't stop the compos, they are one of many aspects of the site that makes it well worth the subscription cost. And to those who persist in pointing out the rules, openly complaining about entries and so on, this as all competitions is a voted one, so the votes will reflect if an entry is not following the rules. Please stop complaining about entries as it turns what should be a bit of fun and healthy competition into a flaming war.

Not all competitions will suit all people, that's always going to happen (I couldn't make an entry for this one as I wasn't able to visit a landmark. No problem, I'll just wait to see if I can go in for the next).

The only thing that nit-picking is likely to achieve is the cessation of the competitions, which would be a great shame. The competitions promote our activity in challenging us to go and take a photo within certain guidelines, much better than a random draw. And occasionally we have the "guess the hits" style compos which anyone stands a good chance of winning.

At the end of the day, anyone can have their say on the entries by voting for the ones they like and not voting for the ones they don't. I think it's one of the fairest ways of running a competition. Also, Chris always posts asking for suggestions for the next compo, so if you feel you have a better idea for a theme, that's the time to make your thoughts heard so that everyone can comment and Chris can take this into account before setting the next theme.

Anyway, enough of that, looking forward to casting my votes, and good luck to all of you who entered this one [:D]

Voting will start tonight.

Based on feedback from those I've canvassed and those that have entered (and the fact I can't be bothered to go through it all again explaining to some of those that have entered why they missed the point of the whole thing) all entries now in can stand and the voting masses can decide on whether they deserve to win. I'll restate the rules at the top of the competition page, making it clear what people should be thinking about when they are awarding their votes.

And Jozzas' right if anyone wants to have a go at coming up with a theme for a photo competiton with a set of watertight rules that everyone can understand then I'm all ears.

Sorry I don't come on the forum much so missed most of this. [B)]

Chris is dead right, and I too love the comps. I think it gives the website interesting and gives the members something extra. For me it was great fun trying to think of cool locations to shoot my pics, and since I don't have a car they were all done fairly local. [8D]

Good luck to everyone that has entered [:D]

Wow... what a topic!

I haven't long been back from holiday and didn't get my picture done before the end of august. Almost glad I didn't enter now.

Was going to put my little ferrari in front of the millenium stadium, but wasn't sure who would recognise it.

Pity I was too late, but will vote for some photos anyway
