due to various reasons i have only just got round to reading the board of late Twisty, and as someone who has bought from you, and probably did the how much do you want thing, i can honestly say its not because i dont read the add properly but i really dont like making offers cos i dont have that much of a clue as to what bits are worth, and i dont want to offer something or a price thats insulting. However you did deal with it (clod tyres if i recall rightly) with good grace and took the time to show me round The Nook when we met up to finish the sale.

my twopennorth anyway

cheers

My opinion is that if someone is asking for offers, they are generally hoping to get more than it's worth from someone who may not appreciate it's true value.

If you're selling anything then you must have an idea of it's value, or at least it's value to you personally. This is the amount I'd list the item at. It may be over or undervalued, but I'm always willing to negotiate over the price - this is a much better way of "haggling", rather than waiting for someone to make an offer out of the blue.

If it was up to me I'd do away with the whole "offers" thing entirely - there are other forums I visit that have a rule whereby you must add a price or the for sale post gets deleted.

I recently listed a BIN/Best Offer eBay auction, and got offers of £30 for a NIB TA05 kit including postage... despite there being a BIN of £99! If the eBay auto-decline hadn't filtered these out then I would have been peeved to have to respond to everyone "taking a punt". Without the BIN "guide price" then I expect I would have had even lower offers on the table... human nature looking for a bargain though!

Tim.
