Hi everyone,

I’ve just bought a cheap TT02D.

Mostly built unused, with an unpainted Skyline body.

I’ve got no interest in drifting personally, amazing to watch but not my thing.

Aside from suitable wheels and tyres, will anything else need changing for tarmac use?

Thank you!

Simon

Things to check:

  • Some versions of the TT-02D manual want you to use the steering limiter (part D15) in step 5. You do not want that.
  • Check the diffs. The TT-02D manual wants you to pack them with AW grease. They might be too tight for your liking. Also the rear diff might be tighter than the front diff. You probably want to swap them if this is the case.
  • Per D manual, the front uprights are mounted in the low position and the rear uprights in the high position. Change the rear uprights to low position for on-road use.
  • I think there are no differences in the shock builds and in how they are mounted but you might want to check that.

It’s the R33 body and it’s looks like it have had bearings included in the kit.

It should arrive early next week, I’ll post a few pictures up.

Tires aside it doesn't need anythingto use on asphalt, just make sure that the rear hubs are installed correctly, they have a one degree toe-in unlike the standard TT02.

The only immediate upgrades that I'd reccomend are a non-Tamiya pinion, and a servo horn (or you can glue the stock servo saver).

This purchased arrived today, I’ll add some photos at the weekend - looks nicely spec’d as standard.

CVA’s

Sport Tuned motor

Heat sink

ESC

Bearings

This one is new built, unfinished and never run.

Cool @Grumpy pants 👍🏻,  just thinking the wheels off your XV-01 would fit on there for a test run? Maybe the body too (if it had one can’t quite remember) until the Skyline is painted up.

A basic TT02 with only aTorque Tuned in it can be a great care free budget friendly runner, so the TT02D with a ST should be fun,

I used to teeter tottering between calling the stock TT02 "toy grade" and all that...after fiddling with a few Chinese-brand RCs I've come to appreciate the TT02 more (and really most of Tamiyas cheap stuff). At least they accept standard 1/10 electronics, wheels, etc.

Love that paint job. Def one of my favourites on TC. That's a great photo of a great car.

Thanks @BuggyDad, I’d intended to just paint it red like a 1:1 I had but glad I didn’t in the end. MK1 Escort’s are one of my favourite cars.

My XV is the ‘T’ version and has the larger chrome wheels used on the CC01.

I’ve got some wheels and tyres with foam inserts held back off the M08 sale last week, which might work.

Realised the decal sheet and window mask was missing, but the seller has found them and is posting them on separately - what a legend 👍
