Hey @wtcc5 that's as pretty a DT as I've seen. The blue colour really suits it.

Interested to know the required mods - looks like it needs drilling out for a bigger diff bearing?

Where did you find the diff parts? I haven't managed to find that set, although this Xtra Speed one looks to have the same compatibility:

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/xtra-speed-aluminum-gear-differential-housing-for-tamiya-ta01-ta02-top-force-1356879

Thanks!  @Quincy told me that you need to widen the openings in the Gearboxhousing only to push the Outdrives through. I am still  waiting for parts.

The XtraSpeed is the version that came after the Revo, but should be the same.

Looking ace that.

What colour is the blue? Is it a Tamiya colour?

Thanks ^_^ That is PS-3 rattle can.

Ah yes, looking at the TF manual it still takes 1150s so yes you'd just need to widen the hole sufficiently to take the outdrives, and it's much less sensitive to accuracy. I think you've unlocked the next big DT mod here. I had been looking for a way to get a sealed gear diff in and had not found a sensible answer until now. @Quincy - Bravo, Sir.

Now I wonder whether it'd fit in a blitzer/Falcon diff too. I'll get the Xtra speed one and offer it up some time...

I guess another question that then arises is whether this diff change affects the position of the diff cups and their engagement with drive shafts (although a change in that regard should be manageable, eg by designing a new upright/arm).

And also what diff cups it takes? Looks like 54543 and 51554 are options.

@BuggyDad: You worry too much. Tamiya has a system and a lot of stuff is interchangeable or delivers the same measurements :)

To my surprise the parts arrived this afternoon.

To give you time to order all parts on sunday ;), here the sealed oil diff build in pictures.

Everything you need:

The assembly line (no plastic diff cover needed):

The only work needed is to widen the gearbox holes for the outdrives by approximately 0.5mm. So very subtle and easy done:

I also just discovered, that you can control the play of the rear arb with thumb screws! I love this chassis more and more each day:

You're absolutely right, of course.

A funny thing is, I started a thread on this a few months ago:

We didn't get to an answer then, but in hindsight @Honza's suggestion of something to try is, I think, exactly what you've ended up doing (although I can't see the video he linked to and I can't remember what was on it).

Anyhow, I'll add this little lot to my shopping list.

I think I'll go for the 54543 cups in preference to the 51554 ones. I have those little white dogbone end sliders on my Mohawk buggy and they eliminate play very nicely and I guess should also enable things to last much longer, assuming I can replace (3d print?) more sliders as they wear. Anyone know the part number for those alone?

This takes away one more of the major limitations of the DT-02/3.

May I suggest you consider some toed in rear uprights for yours, by the way? Although I think your DT-02 will already drive much better than my 3, they are perhaps the single best change I've made to mine.

Drop me an email Kevin. I'll email you some STL files for mine

Cheers. Looked after asking and suspected as much but confirmation seals the deal. This will be gracing a shell of my asap.

Noticed this when adding the rear bar to the DT-03 and whilst it’s not mentioned anywhere in either the DT-03 or 02 instructions iirc it seems a bit too convenient for that not to be the use.
I added a little bit of iirc 2mm heat shrink to the ‘hidden’ portion of the bar before setting the holes. Never bothered to remove it.

Can you, or anyone else, clarify what the part numbers are for the top two bags?

The one on the left looks like some bevel gears and the right I presume contains the notched shafts in the detail picture.
Not saying I’ll copy this but I have gone that far with the 03 I could be tempted to go a bit further!

Yep, it's exactly this product. I don't know why the video went private. I made an update in the topic.

It's cool that these old Tamiyas got option for more modern diff design. @wtcc5 confirmed that it should work with most Tamiyas that use same diff internals.

Great info on the diff mod, I didn´t know the R-Evo parts, but knew someone in Asia was on this design with a RC company. Maybe it was this brand. First custom parts wereold via Facebook, as far as I remember. But now luckily Xtra speed stepped in. I´ve already got 2 kits from them and one will now go into my DT03, thanks guys! I also managed with  a little hacking to built sealed gear diff for all Minis before M05 to M08 using the Xtra speed parts. Will make a little "How to" for the Mini lovers...

When I saw @wtcc5's diff I searched a bit and saw the XTra Speed one; I immediately wondered if it would fit in the M-05 stock diff gear. By all means let us know how you made it work on the M chassis! :)

Yeah it made me wonder what else it might fit too. I'm going to have a look at my Blitzer diffs since my Fake Falcon has surprisingly turned into a buggy I like driving round a track. Not holding out a huge amount of hope though!

For M05 there are cheaper ways to get a sealed gear diff. 3-Racing makes a bullet proof one, very reliable. If you are stuck to Tamiya parts, you can use for M05/06 my How to: 58460: M06 PRO Chassis Kit from ruebiracer showroom, How to build M05/06 oil filled gear diff from Tamiya parts - Tamiya RC & Radio Control Cars (tamiyaclub.com)

I believe the 3 Racing differential stock was depleted completely and forever a long time ago when the M-05 was a popular racing chassis ;)

Wow, that was YOU! :) I read this back when I build my M-05.

I will stop hi-jacking Kevin's thread here, but I have been wondering if any member could contribute to these 'how to'. There are a few topics I wanted to make an article for, but in the regular forums of TC they sink into oblivion in a matter of weeks which defeats the purpose.

Will stop also, but yeah racing makes also one for M05.

Ok, ok, this is the last post :D

I saw the YR one but it's not even the correct number of teeth on the diff!  I know YR are not always on point in terms of engineering and so I am either confused, or they tried to make it work with a different tooth count and it's terrible. I recall that even on their own website's picture, you could see the counter-gear all chewed up.

@wtcc5 have you modified arms/ chassis, to fit stainless shafts on rear arms?

Yes, I did. I drilled a small deepening right where the pin would collide with the chassis.
