The Redcat Ground Pounder is an overall cool truck, but with some fatal flaws.
An solid axle RTR with selectable front, FWS or 4W crab steering out of the box. And, rumor has it, the metal chassis was designed for Redcat by CPE, the long time aftermarket supplier for Clod parts.

The fatal flaws

1) Never driven one but I have heard the transmission is more of less made of glass reinforced papier-mâché

2) It has pretty nice scale looking axles and nice TVP metal chassis, but the scale looks are kind of fouled by low profile style rims with a basher tread pattern instead of a nice scale looking MT wheel with a classic chevron tread.

The point of my rant ( I’m getting to one ) is ,

have any of the outstanding builders on this forum based any builds off a Ground Pounder chassis?
I’m thinking either a transmission swap or an MOA build with clod axles ?
I’m interested in hearing any experienced builders’ thoughts and opinions.

Its been awhile, but I looked into these years back (before the SMT10 even IIRC) and researched them on the now-defunct RCMT board. Some of my ramblings may be not quite on target. I seem to remember the motor wasn't solidly connected to the gearbox and would mis-align under use, stripping the 48 pitch (IIRC) spur. I think the fix was to run a super chunky mod1 pitch gear setup. The pinion and spur were exposed, which was a big turn-off for me. The axle housings tended to snap too, Hesse Machine made some expensive, but functional, braces to keep them in one piece.

I too, liked the CPE design angle but I fear the bean counters at Redcat neutered it. It was just too much money with too many flaws out of the box to get me to open my wallet in the end.

I picked up a chassis years ago and assembled it with TXT axles and a Axial 3 gear transmission, then later a leftover Tamiya CR01 trans since it's basically bulletproof.  Was pretty easy to do, plenty of room in the chassis to make it work. I think it's still here somewhere, been years since I messed with it.

I’m sure I remember seeing quite a few “Clod-Pounder” builds back on Clodtalk when that was still up. The HPI Wheely King and the TXT were the other donors I saw build threads on.

Not to sound harsh, but that truck is junk.  I've seen quite a few guys try to race them and it never works out well.  At minimum you need heavy axle braces (Freestyle I think), and then there's all the other issues that guys mentioned above.  There are much better options at this point and the plate style chassis isn't realistic by any stretch so there's not even much use as the base for a build.  Sure, you can make them work with a drivetrain transplant, but not worth the headache.  Just trying to save you the trouble.
