That's too much!

Recommended Posts

Funny thing about the Sabula Tech bodies - they're all old Bolink molds, so the tooling already existed. And Bolink used to sell them as Ford, Pontiac, etc, so I imagine Sabula is just playing it safe with the made-up names.

I've been thinking about the "too much" thing.

Perhaps it's just me, but spending a good bit of money on one project is sort of okay, but then being all "Ooh, shiny!" I get into four or five more or less ongoing projects and then a can of paint (or whatever) turns into five or ten cans of various paints or things - it adds up to the total sum that I am spending. In the same way that a "cheap kit" easily turns out to be 250-300 euros in the end ... because it needs a bunch of stuff. I am trying to figure out how to approach this, since it gets to be a Serious Investment, and it was supposed to be fun, cheap and cheerful. Maybe you can only get two out of those three ... :)

Off road RC Wheels and tyres. My X Maxx wheels and tyres are about the same price as 16’ tyres on my van haha

Metal bits, or perhaps spares in general, but mainly metal bits.

I recently looked at my spares stash and realised I had 80 percent of an MF01x, with arms, chassis, body wheels and gears and dogbones.

I thought great, I'll use up some spares and make something quick and cheap to keep or sell.

Just getting 4 axles, 4 diff cups and diff internals added up came to more than I could get a second hand chassis for. Maybe I am doing it wrong, but it all seemed super expensive compared to the kits? If I just get the bags I  would needs bags a, b, c and d, which really adds up. Individual parts might be cheaper, but perhaps not, and I would still be short

A shame as the idea I think would work well..

I could look at off brand items, but not quite sure what would work with what.

I haven't been active on here in recent months, but I have been partaking in the hobby, albeit park bashing / crawling.

My biggest pet peeves are the cost of wheels, tires, and other "disposable" accessories. As others have mentioned, it's obvious that the sellers are nickel-and-diming us because they know we'll swallow it up and keep buying. Though honestly, in regards to bodies, I picked up an NSX and Motul body for my TT-02 for about $35.00 each last month, so it's not horrible. I definitely spent a sizeable $70 on miscellaneous YeahRacing parts for my CC-02 though...

Also, I was in New Hampshire this past summer, where I stopped by a pretty major hobby shop which also serves as a shipping / distribution center for major RC outlets on eBay and around. I got most of my paints at $4 each, with a few specialty colors at $6.75. Though now the issue lies in using them......... I'm procrastinating painting all of my bodies; I suck at it, to the point where I enjoy stickering more than painting...
