Hi All,

Researching a film-project and I'm wondering if anyone here can help me out:

I'm looking for pics/video/articles of the 1988 JMRCA All-Japan Off-Road 4WD Championship? (All I can find are Japanese articles and Google's auto-translate is next to useless)

Further to that, does anyone have pics/video/articles on the Avante at any competition events?

I know it never finished particularly high in anything and got replaced by the Egress a year later, so info is rather scarce, but anything at all that anyone has would be a great help.

Have a super week everybody!

In the interests of sharing, I found this link:

http://hirosaka.jp/story23.html

It's entirely in Japanese and auto-translate doesn't seem to offer much in the way intelligible information, but there are at least a couple of bleary B&W pictures of what appears to be an Avante (have made my best attempt to de-noise these pics):

I was thinking of these when i first read "Coyote", but not in conjunction with TAG.
However, i did not expect these to be so competitive. I remember these were very lightweight but extremely fragile back then.

And two four wheel drive

With a 504s motor

No wonder it did so well, it's that two four wheel drive system. 😆

The Coyote came in RWD, FWD and 4WD variations.  That box pic is for the RWD version..

The highlighted section reads,

"Jo Schimtz from the US, was driving the only Tamiya Avanti and this appeared to be perhaps the best car on the jumps. Certainly, round the rest of the track it was on the pace. The one problem Jo seemed to have was that the Avanti rear end tended to break away on tight in-field turns.  We understand that this is a new design of Avanti, offering a number of modifications and we look forward with great interest to being able to examine this car further."

Jo finished 9th overall.

They weren't cheap back in 89'. US Dollars.

@Sir Crashalot   Clearly an Egress and the article is April 1989….

Is this a prototype or just an early release Egress.  Me find out.

Release date 29th June 1989 according to Tamiyabase so this pre-dates Egress.
