Yeah.  Nah.

I sold my original a long time ago and regretted it.

I didn't buy the first round of re-res and regretted it.

Now they've come back with a big-ticket limited release, I won't bother.  There's enough demand for a full re-release of this, there's enough vintage racing in the UK now and we need more options for racing.  Once all the vintage cars are beyond repair, we'll have a heat full of Wild Ones, Foxes, Turbo Ultimas and Top Cats (which have also been discontinued) - and perhaps the most iconic of them all, the RC10, is going to disappear.

With all the tooling available to make a mass-production kit, this feels a bit unfair.

It's a hard "nope" from me.  I have a CE, other than the chassis "40" stamp, the etching and the hologram, it's pretty much the same release but costing more.

Agree with you on this, i'd even say it is costing waaay more for hardly nothing. For me it is a lazy 40th anniversary version, they could have done a lot more than this. Dissapointing...<_<

How much is the street price for one of these?
I want to get one, but wary.

Street price is $379 USD.   I wanted to get a hold of a vintage RC10 so bad.  Then the release......then the release price.

In the original thread I started about this earlier, I admit I had some trepidation about being a bit negative about the price. But, I figured we're all here to talk about toy cars so having an opinion is ok as long as one respects other's opinions. I'm happy for those that see value in this rerelease which is more representative of the original and less of a display piece than the clear version.

I'm in the hard "nope" category as well unfortunately although I'm glad not to be alone in that. I have sold off cars to make room and saved back for this RC10 but its just too much money. Its much like the feeling I mentioned in the "That's too much!" thread. When I see pricing like that, much like a $10+ can of paint, I can't help but feel we're being taken advantage of. This is even more true with something that tugs on the heartstrings like the return of the RC10 certainly does for some. This "Limited Edition!!!" FOMO crap angle doesn't help either. There will no doubt be defenders of the price and Associated's actions and that's cool. If its worth it to someone then they should go for it and be happy doing so. Everybody knows its nowhere near as bad as some of the garbage that's transpired of late in our hobby (Trashaxx shenanigans and Horizon's destruction of Tower Hobbies, etc.) I have a sneaking suspicion Associated looked sideways at what Kyosho was charging for the JJ Ultima and priced accordingly. Of course, being a replica of the '87 Worlds winner with many unique re-created parts just for that limited edition model means that its worth its price. A rehash of the RC10 Classic with some laser etching? Sorry, nah.

I know Associated had to remake the molds yet again so there's expenditure up front to recoup, but they had to do that with the Classic too. This tactic is probably to minimize risk through the max-profit capitalism approach. AE could probably sell consistent numbers of these (much like Tamiya does with their mainstay rereleases that have been in production now longer than the originals were) every year at reasonable prices. Instead they went for the FOMO limited numbers max-profit approach right away and will sell every one made (which we'll likely see, still sealed in boxes, selling for $800+ on Fleabay in 2 years). But that's capitalism, and in the short term, the safer (and some would say smarter) move so we can't blame them. They're here to make money just like all the other manufacturers.

Maybe we'll get lucky and we might see a more affordable non "Limited Edition" variant come out after the hoopla of this one has died down, but that's probably dreaming. More likely, there will be other RC10 variants brought out in limited numbers at high prices in the following years if this current pricing scheme works out for them. Of course the second a future rerelease crashes (like the Worlds car did), AE could quickly pull the plug too as we've seen in the past. You know, I've got 8 old RC10s that I've had for many years and could have made a killing selling as prices on them have shot up but I think I'll just tinker with them. I've also got something totally new,  yet deliciously retro, called the BBX to put together and run without any guilt.

I get the feeling that TAs disposable race-grade stuff isn't paying the bills, so they've got their ugly "bashers" to compete with Traxxas, slow on-road cars with bushings to compete with Tamiya, crawlers that work like every other crawler on the market, and RC10 re-releases to sell to collectors.

To your other point, Team Associated will happily sell you a spoonful of lithium grease for only $10!

It is a little pricey, BUT it's been ten years (holy cow) since the last one and the economy is a disaster compared to 10 years ago, price is in line with inflation.

Is it a little lazy, maybe. Tons of people have wanted this and AE/Tiger listened.

Price is in line for what a garbage vintage would cost and a NIB RC10 Classic from 10 years ago will cost you double. It's a win!

AE/Tiger do need to step it up now, next one needs to be a T or Graphite. Then everyone will lose their minds.

Meanwhile Tamiya keeps dropping things no one has asked for......

Another limited release?

Congratulations Fan RC, you are safe.

Please keep molding RC10 parts; we will need them.

$100 US price increase after the last one was made 10 years ago is more then fair.  I doubt there will be a cheaper Gold Pan, hopefully AE/Tiger is smartee then Tamiya and does a Graphite or Truck version next. A team car would be awesome!

With inflation it should be $335 range.  Ordered one anyways since it would go with my 2014 version.

I'm still in the buying stage of the Hobby, but is there really a way to lose money here? Won't an Anniversary edition always sell for more than new (down the line, once no longer available for a while)? My out the door cost for this was $405, but when I look back at some of the models I've purchased in that range, this one will outshine most of them and they were cheaper when new. I guess it might be expensive if driven until the wheels fall off, if the cost of fun isn't a consideration. I dunno what I'm getting at exactly, but I'm gonna be happy to lightly use mine and lovingly admire it when not in use.

If you look at the classic and the world's you won't lose money. My rec buy a beat up gold chassis and nose plate for cheap, use that for the build, run it, and when you get bored rebuild with the new chassis and sell.

Possibly pedantic, but the Classic was $130 cheaper.

Correct, going off inflation from the Classic's issue date and today's date.

Interestingly, if you put the price of a bushing-equipped RC10 (which others have said this 40th kit seems to have) which was about $130 in 1985, it inflates to $377 in today's money, so AE really isn't that far off. I still contend the $280 Ultima is a better deal and wish this RC10 was priced accordingly but you can wish in one hand and .... in the other as they say. With the sheer greed from corporations and high inflation in other goods/services in the States, AE is actually playing it smart to price it higher making it a special limited edition. They'll sell every one which is important in a market like RC.

Speaking of inflation calculations, you know what hasn't kept pace with the rate of inflation? Why, the average US worker's wage of course! May not be an issue for those doing well, but it sure hurts for those of us at the bottom. None of the proceeding statement has anything to do with AE or the RC10, just life in general.

This makes me overthink my RC plans... The RC10 looks ubercool and I always wanted one. But would I build and drive a limited edition like this? Not so sure... But the itch to get one is certainly there. Tamico has announced it for June, but does not take pre-orders yet.

Other then the chassis which can get pretty beat up even just running in the grass the rest of the car is pretty bulletproof.  Buy a used gold chassis, use that for the build and for running. If you ever decided to sell rebuild with the mint 40 anni chassis, done.  Preorder from AE .
