ReRe Blitzer Beetle Shocks and Motor Advice

Recommended Posts

Just putting the standard kit supplied CVA’s back on this one.

The shock disc that the oil flows through -

Which disc is the best to use front and back?

And which shock oil? I’ve got clear, yellow and red - all Tamiya kit supplied stuff.

Motors I’ve got in stock -

Silver can

Torque tuned

Sports tuned

Dirt tuned

Random unknown out of a TA03

I’ll run NiMH’s and have from memory 13T & 15T pinions.

Mostly running in our back garden, which is about 60’ well kept lawn.

In that area I'd be tempted to go Dirt Tuned and 15 tooth pinion  :)

I've messed about with my shocks so much that this probably isn't very helpful, but I went for upgraded pistons and reckon it makes a significant difference. Enough that my Falcon (nee Blitzer Beetle) is in my top three cars to repeatedly drop on the table and marvel at its damping*.

*which in turn is among the best RC activities, I'm sure you'd agree.

Definitely skip the silver can. I fell asleep watching my Stadium Blitzer’s first run within 5 minutes. Promptly put a Sport Tuned in it that was much better. The ST didn’t like soft sand much though and would get very hot in no time.

Grass can be power sapping as well, my gut would be Dirt Tuned.

Also that pile of mulch in the back corner needs to be moved to the middle of the straight for a decent jump while your at it 😁

This is true. But you don't need that garden table either do you? I don't think it'd take long to have the top off that for your take-off.

Thank you Dirt Tuned it will be, I’ll use the 15T pinion.

Great shout the upgraded pistons, this time around I’ll use the kit stuff as I have it ready to go.

The mods and upgrades will follow later 😉

Morning K,

Good stuff, love the action shots of your SB.
My wife has plans on me moving that mulch today 😂

Can you remember what you did when you built your shocks?

G’day 😉 It was my first ever Tamiya build from NIB so other than probably built poorly, they were just built as per manual with what was in the box. (Yellow Oil) I haven’t touched them since as I didn’t feel I needed to?

Happy mulch relocating.

@KEV THE REV what did you do with the shocks on your recent BB rebuild?

I stripped and rebuilt them with new O rings and the stock disc etc and from memory I used red oil but I haven't run it in anger  👍

Thanks Kev.

Any tips on which disc to use front and back - I’d guess the single hole up front a two up in the rear shocks?

I just edited my previous answer -  but I used the stock discs and it all might need tuning to accommodate the rear end weight

I've got a Sport Tuned in it with 15T Steel pinion , it does burn-outs in my conservatory much to my other half"s dismay  - nothing that a bit of cleaner can"t remove - the skid marks that is , not the other half :)

Built the rear shocks tonight using the 2 hole disc as per the manual and the kit supplied shock oil, which I have 5 bottles of 😳.

Figured it would be a good starting reference point and use up some of stuff I have @ home already 😊

Couldn’t finish the fronts as I need a pair of long nose pliers 🤦‍♂️

Front damper, 3 hole Yellow oil (400), kit spring

Rear damper, 1 hole, Yellow oil, rear spring from df03 kit

15T, parma yokomo motor (no idea about It), lipo2S

Shocks, wheels and motor now fitted with a hardened 15T pinion.

I used the Tamiya Dirt Tuned motor out of my spares, which I’m looking forward to trying out.

Rear shocks are very bouncy, so I’ll have to dig through my spares to see what I’ve got I might be able to use and I’ll work back from there.

Coming at just under £70 all in so far on this and that includes a battery, 2 additional sets of buggy wheels and a NIB Sports Tuned motor.

V.happy with that ⬆️

Been playing around with the Blitzer bouncy rear end this evening…tried 900 oil and stiffer springs - better but still too much.

Then 900 oil in the JK RC alloy shocks that came with the Blitzer, much better.

I did break one of the shock caps though, so I don’t hold out too much hope, but in any event I won’t know what I’ve got until the maiden run this coming weekend.

Failing that I’ve got some NIP 85mm Fastrax shocks I bought for my Lunchbox I can trial, although these are 5mm shorter than the kit CVA’s.

My wife is driving to Manchester and back on Sunday, which is over a 350 mile round trip, so after starting my tax returns I’ll have some cheeky ‘T’ time 😊.

Another option for setting the rears is the tamiya piston blanks, if you want to keep your stock shocks otherwise.

That way you can go for smaller holes and a more mid weight oil, and a nicer performing shock at the same time because better fit. And only need to buy one little iddy biddy hop-up. Until you want to do the same on the fronts of course. And change the o-rings. And.... 😜

Runs nicely with a quick blast around the garden.
I’m going to enjoy this - just under £75 as you see it with a bundle of spares I can either use or sell on.
1st time I’ve used a Savox servo and Dirt Tuned motor, nice combo, turns quickly enough for me and pulls controllable wheelies.

Over time I’d like to think I’ll carry out the chassis and shock tower mod, but I’d like to add a little trim paint to the shell and get the driver in before doing anything else.

Great info and new to me, thank you.

Do  you fit the blanks instead of the kit discs and drill the amount and size of holes that you want?

Very nice . Are the DF03 rear springs stiffer than the BB stock ones ?
