Just wanted to share my experience of visiting my local race club for the first time.  On Friday I headed down to Ayrshire RCCC for a club practice night with my M08 mini.

Must say I was made to feel very welcome, got in lots of laps and among a few spins, bumps and rolls, I managed to dial in at least a couple successive “respectable-ish” laps!

The folks at the club let me try out a number of different vehicles, some pretty spectacular vintage buggies, an M07 and even a GT12 car which was incredible!  Like driving on rails, the grip and speed were quite a departure from what I am used to.  Especially kind of them to trust me with these fine vehicles given my very obvious lack of ability too 😂

Anyway, if any other TC members have been thinking of giving their club a visit, I’d highly recommend it.  Sadly with clubs like Cotswolds and Mendip at risk it would be a shame to lose local facilities before you get chance to try them out.  Who knows, by getting along to your local club you may become a regular fixture and participate in it continuing and maybe even growing :)

@neowhizz and the guys are a cracking bunch, they'll look after you (maybe not your wallet though...🤣)

Bit at the end of the season, but we've an Off - Road at Glasgow , at Calderglen Country Park (behind the tennis courts at the sports club)

Cheers folks!  I must say the wee mini is not quite so shiny now but still in one piece and now looks much more like a real racer with with scuffs and scrapes :)

Ive got a truck which I’ve had down for the truck racing series as well, that is a lot of fun as everyone says!

Thanks Wooders, im actually not far from EK to visit the Glasgow club, ive been along with the kids and watched a while ago.  A buggy would be the most likely next purchase so when I’ve got some funds saved up I might be able to pay a visit 👍

Cool!!

You know we've a few 'club cars' that you can book online (basically, just to give us chance to dig them out and charge them!) , that you can use, to have a shot around the track. I certainly wouldn't go buying one, before speaking to the other guys at the club, especially at the end of the outdoor season, as all the sponsored guys look to be getting new cars, and club members usually get first dibs on their old ones.

There's meetings all year round on a Wednesday night, but as the night draw in, it's just in the club house bar, talking RC , and going through anything people want to know, a night of learning to programme an ESC, setting up suspension etc (pretty much anything you want to tbh).

Everyone loves a chat, (me more so tbh, I'll follow you to you're car still blethering...🙄🤣), so don't be afraid to ask questions!!

Just read this back as I finished my first full series last night.  Club Mini champs and was second in the ‘b’ race on the night, a fantastic battle for the win as well with really clean racing with the club junior series winner, he very much deserved it.  Overall in the series I was 8th which I’m delighted with, given when I started my main mission was to keep out other folks way 🤣

Now have two mini chassis and can’t wait for the next series as I love my M08, my kids have the M05R which I’ve now got behaving, it’s also an option for me if I go out on the road next year.  I’m also truck racing which is a riot, have a couple of parts towards a GT12 which  is popular at my club and I’ll likely make a start with next year.  Finally I’ve got my TD2 still to build and a club fun day / buggy champ over Christmas so safe to say I’ve thrown myself into it.  With a buggy I’ll finally be able to pay the Glasgow club a proper visit, albeit my TD2 will not be as pro as some of the machines on that track!

Sorry I've just seen this!! 🤦‍♂️

That's us running outdoors again now, first meeting today.

Don't be intimidated by the Pros (that's Daniel a fully fledged factory driver for Associated now 👏), they know exactly what it's like to hit a track for the first time, and will be on hand for advise etc, so don't be afraid to ask.
