TA02 something?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

its been a while since I have posted here but I have been lurking around every so often.

Can anyone let me know what car it is that I have here? I was under the impression that it was a TA02 chassis with the Carbon Fiber upgrade chassis plates before I bought it. After receiving it I realized that the width has been extended and it has universal driveshafts to match the extensions.

That's a real mashup! It is a top force carbon chassis, which uses same gearboxes as the TA02, but it has had M chassis arms grafted on so it's super narrow. You could pretty easily build a carbon chassis TA01. You will need the TA02 arms sprue, but just mount the rear arms swept forward, and some 39mm universals or driveshafts and dog bones all round.

Those shocks look dubious too so maybe a set of CVA super mini shocks as well?

Hey thanks for that! The body I have is the Countach LP500S. Would those parts you mentioned also work with that body? I have read that flipping the rear TA01 arms will bring the wheelbase down to the 251mm that the LP500 has. I don’t remember the body width off hand but I believe it’s a bit wider than the regular bodies. Any info would be great!

My apologies, I got the arms bit wrong. TA01 arms are needed here, but flipped forward they give 257mm wheelbase. The centre section marked Top Force Evolution is 20mm longer than the TA02 tub. The TA02 arms have more sweep so if you flipped those forward on this you would get somewhere near 251. No idea about the LP5000 shell I am afraid.

Okay thanks again!  Will pick up a set of the TA02 arms then, or if I can get a used chassis reasonably cheap, I’ll probably go that route as it should have everything I need including the shocks and axles.

Those aren't M-chassis arms, the shape looks similar to the standard TA01 arms, they just have more material on them, which makes them look shorter.

The main difference here are uprights and very thick hexes. I guess wheel axles are quite long and will need replacement aswell.

I'm not sure if TA-02 arms can be flipped around, I remember reading something about collision with motor.

Tamiya did make a 251mm WB option, but that was TA-02 chassis with TA01 rear arms swept backwards.

@Trini2DBone I would listen to @Honza. If they are TA01 shape arms then probably easiest way to 251 wheelbase would be getting a TA02 tub and shorter prop shaft.

Hey thanks for the info guys!  Is there another Tamiya Touring chassis that has a Carbon Fiber chassis that measures out to a 251mm wheelbase? I really wanted to do this build with a Carbon chassis.

Yes

Carbon chassis TA02 TA04 TB Evo III

I've converted a few different chassis's to 251mm to fit the Capri body, but the two above are a factory option with carbon chassis hop up, the TA02 will need TA01 rear arms though and the TA04/TB Evo III needs the ss rear arms.

Oh man, what a beautiful collection!

So basically I just need the TA01 rear arms and I should be good?  Well, will also need to get rid of those wheel extensions and find the stock axles I think….?

That's what I did.

Regarding the wheel extensions I suppose it depends on what wheels you want to use

So I been looking at the TA04 cars and I’m pretty much liking them! I might just get one and pick up a set of the ss arms to get the wheelbase.

So will likely sell this chassis that I have.

Hi,

What you have there are Cross parts - they are the TA01/ TA02 Cross lower arms with the Cross Carbon Shock Towers front and rear with anti-roll bars/ stabilisers fitted.

The rear alloy adjustable upper arms are Rainbow racing I think - have a set of those but not in the packet so not 100% - same with the carbon shaft they do a TA01 and TA02 version.

The blue front support is again by Rainbow Products I think - I have one at home still in the packet but I will have to check the manufacturer to be sure.

Pretty sure the shocks are also by Cross or could also be one of the other period Japan hop up companies of the period.

The front and rear alloy hubs could again be from any of the period aftermarket companies.

Great chassis with some cool period hop ups fitted - I would crack open the gearboxes to see whats inside as based on the above, I would guess it would have a torque splitter/ one way in the front a top force evo ball diff in the rear.

In fact looking at thise gold outdrives in teh front, it has got a front spool but I cant remember who did that one - maybe Tech Racing.

Hope that helps :-)
