Yokomo Dogfighter YZ-834B re-release

Recommended Posts

https://teamyokomo.com/topics/14770/

Hot on the heels of the YZ-870C, Yokomo have now announced the re-release of it's predecessor, the YZ-834B. One of the weirdest looking buggies ever made, but I'm a big fan of it. I think we can assume that Yokomo were pleased with the response to the YZ-870C.

Wonder if they will keep going and bring back the Works 91 & Works 93? That would complete my vintage Yokomo wishlist. :)

Absolutely wonderful news.  So happy to see these unobtainable cars from my early days of RC being made available.

Nice! I am excited. I will need to get some RPS decals now.

Interesting re-release. I still have no idea how something so crude was more competitive than a modified Hotshot of the day (less drivetrain drag maybe?) but nevertheless, interesting. Anxious to see build threads in the future.

Now this is cool.. I hope they release it for a decent price as I would be interested in getting one just out of curiosity for the crazy design.

The YZ-870C was going for slightly less than €500 and I don't think that this one will be cheaper. Maybe its just me but I don't think that €500 for an RC car is decent.

I’m guessing that despite the terrible suspension design, the weight-forward component layout helped it really rip out of the corners. This one was before my day and building the transmission just for grins seems like fun.

It’s certainly a lot for such a dead simply vehicle. The rerelease market is very healthy, apparently.

This one seems like it would be significantly less expensive to me. Less metal, no shock towers, only 2 shocks.. I'm looking at this thread:

https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=47441

The design is so basic with very few parts I really don't think they could get away with that same price.. You very well may be right, and in that case I won't bite.. But I'm still hoping :D

I think the YZ-834 suspension is better than the Hotshot because it does not have the offset on damper end-caps that cause the damper shafts to bend and also bind-up.  Other advantages of the Wonder dog are the more efficient drive system, and idler steering crank that minimises the bump steer.    The materials seem better quality as well.

You may be right and hopefully for all those who are interested in buying one you are right.

Personally I'm not interested in most of the race car re-re's as as a kid I've only had toy grade RC's. Even Tamiya cars were far out of my reach and beside a Monster Beetle a friend of mine had, I only know them from the toy catalogues. Therefor I don't have strong sentimental memories to them.

Digging this thread up again ... :)

Given that the 870c seems to have been redone from the ground up (lost moulds etc), it may well be that the original 834b parts has met the same fate. In that case, I guess Yokomo needs to recoup the costs of redoing this one too, and thus maybe the price will be high. I really like the unusual construction and the looks of it, maybe even more than the 870c.

Here's hoping that they get it done and that it will be less expensive than the 870c. :)

I've been looking around a bit, and happened to come across this fellow who apparently is taking an original 834b apart, and then putting it together, along with comments on the construction. There are several videos, this one is the latest in the series. It seems to be quite basic, but I find it interesting to think about the limits of the RC technology back then, and the design choices made.

Yay! :) Still keeping my thumbs for this one. But I have to see if it is possible to actually use - otherwise I'll pass, as cool as it is.

I love it. Can’t deny it’s a bit pricy for my liking but they have done a fantastic job of replicating the original. It’s weird and toy-like looking, and really makes little sense in coming back if we are talking about performance capabilities compared to what is out there at the moment, even in the vintage sector. But that’s why it’s even more impressive that they have brought it back as a pure nostalgia piece. My order is in.

It’s £470 which, to be blunt, is too much for what this kit is. I was hoping it would be in the £375 range, but sadly not.

I’ve ordered mine from Modelsport.

Oaah ... that's a bit too much for me, sadly. In that context, the 870c has come down a bit in price (400 euros). Maybe this one will too, eventually.
