I just can't get it... Why does quite a few of the members mark their items as SOLD in the header instead of just deleting the item ???

Is it something I don't get ?

The result, for me at least, is that I have to browse through a lot of non-relevant trades because they are already sold...waste of my time and TC space.

Anyone that can enlighten me to why this is done ??

It's because of the way the forums software works; if someone has responded to a post, then the person who posted the item can't delete it, that can only be done by the site admins. You can however change the heading of an item, so that's what most people do to mark the fact that it's been sold.

Two reasons.

1- so that other people who were interested can see for sure that it was sold. I find that if I just remove the add, I still get people emailing me saying "do you still have.....".

2- I put SOLD on, and leave the listing there until the buyer has received the car/parts. That way they can check that they got everything they thought they were getting.

I am not refering to the Forum entries, I was thinking of the Trade Room entries.

I get your point, but would not most people realise that the item is either sold or not available if the trade room entry is gone ?

And, most of the "after deletion" request you get might be from people that has noted the ad, left it for a few days, and then contacted you, without checking the Trade Room ? The marking as SOLD will not help in that case ??

I see that leaving the ad until the item arrives is a good practice, but you will find ads in the trade room that are many months old, even from last year, and marked as sold...

A bit more discipline is what I am looking for, and maybe an "admin cleanup" ?

"Full of.." is a bit of an overstatement... I just did a simple search (for those that say sold in the title) and found less 100 out of 2600+ items

Old ones are in there simply because people forget. Its human nature, once you've sold and item its not important to you any more.

If you see old sold ads, easiest thing is for you just send a polite reminder email to the people yourself, rather than waiting admins to come across them and do something. Its the sort of thing where everybody can help out, both sellers and those looking for items.

I am working on an automatic routine which will remove ebay items after 10 days though.

The trade rooms don't bother me that much! It's the ppl that constantly EDIT their posts in the for sale/wanted section on these forums as it's been said before you don't get a chance to see NEW gear just the same old gear EDITED by ppl just to bump it up.

now that does my head in.

Thats a different issue that we try and keep on top of. If you see someone doing it then please let me or the other mods know. You are allowed to edit or resubmit a post after 30 day. You are also allowed to edit a post if you are make a significant change to the post (ie dropping the price considerable - £1 drop on a £200 item wouldn't count)

Bumps like, "3 days to go", "1 day to go" or "Some one must be interested" etc are not - there is a post about it in the trades forum.

Well, i am one of the guys who marks items with <SOLD>

in his traderoom,

on the very simple reason, to give the buyer a chance to see

what he has bought ( on a boring day or something )

I usually delete them, depending mood ;) if A) payment has been made,

or :) the item has arrived to the buyer.

Yes, and i am also anoyed by some forum-traderoom-post-bumpers,

but, a well, if that is the only problem in life, this is the Walhalla [:P]
