Does anyone know the part number for the diff parts bag for an M03 diff with the flat D outdrives?  That is opposed to the splined type.  Or does anyone know what model the flat D type came on?  The only ones I can find are the splined ones.

I want to build a second diff for my M03 racer but I want to have the same outdrive type so I can swap the diffs without having to swap the outdrives also.

Thanks

I don't believe that the M-03 ever came with the flat D type outdrive fittings, although the diff internals are the same dimensions as those of the TT-01 so you can use those parts instead to give you flat D type outdrives on an M-03 diff.

Interesting, I may have remembered incorrectly - I'll check my TT01 builds.  I have a vague recollection that (after my M03 diff ate itself around 12 years ago) I rebuilt it with flat D parts from a "later" M03.  For some reason I think Fiat 500, but I may be entirely wrong, and I can't find the manual online to prove it.  It may well be that those internals actually came from a totally different model.  Either way, that's what's still in my M03 now, complete with metal outdrives.  In my head all TT01s have those bulky plastic outdrives but a quick online search seems to disprove this, perhaps I'm thinking of the TT02.  Thanks for the assist anyway, that helps me buy the parts I need :)

Pardon someone who does not know ... but is it the 53070 diff you are talking about?

alas no, it's the standard gear diff in the M03.  For the series I'm in, as far as I'm aware, we have to run a stock differential - although the M05 is now allowed in the same class and can run aftermarket diffs.  That said I'm not 100% sure the 53070 is all that adjustable in practice.

Both the 01 and 02 have basic versions with bulky plastic outdrives and higher end versions with compact metal ones.

However even the bulky plastic ones have metal shafts that engage with the diff, and these use the flat D profile.

M-05 came with flat D type differentials and outdrives, using same plastic gears as M-03. The 54477 TT-02 outdrives should fit as well.

Iconic cup? "Tamiya differential" so you can use a couple of ball diffs in the M03, Manta Ray and theres another, I tried one (splined as it happens), just couldn't get it tight and when it spun up it seemed to take ages to grip again so not really an improvement over the kit open geared diff which you can make good for about 3 minutes 14 seconds till it dumps the super sticky oil out or whatever you put in it :D

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that.  I'd read that the Manta Ray diff wasn't that good and doesn't have much adjustment, which is my experience of it in the Manta Ray, to be honest.  For dry weather I use blu tac with a tiny drop of shock oil to help it mix, for the first season it needed constant repacking after every other race but now it's got to the point where it's pretty stiff all the time.  In fact at Broxtowe it was a borderline fail by scrutineering.  Getting the goo out is a real pain so I figured having a second open diff that I can throw in for the wet would be ideal :)
