The Clod Buster.....Oldie But Goodie!

Recommended Posts

This is another on of the Clod Busters that I've had for quite awhile, it's not perfect, it's not pretty and it's certainly not a shelf queen! I've recently switched it back over to old school electronics from running a HW880 and a Flysky 2.4ghz system. Wanted to bring it back to typical 1980's configuration.  Really the only "modern" part hidden in there is a 25kg metal gear servo to help steer the beast. Ran it around all over the yard yesterday and it still runs as well, it's not fast by any means, but it is definitely nostalgic and FUN! B)

Cool! So you run it with period typical electronics then!

MSC, how does that works nowadays?

nice! I always preferred the way my old lunchbox performed with an MSC more than an ESC.

Nice one, as a good Clod always is! Although I don't see a reason to use "contemporary" controlling components only because the model is old (except that one really wants to use old electronics). I can remember back in the late eighties when I really hated the MSCs and the ESCs were not yet capable at that time. So I embrace modern technologies, since they save energy, space and nerves. What's "bad" about todays electronics from your point of view?

Yes, I run it with the period typical components and some of my other RC as well. The MSC works great after cleaning up and put a new resistor on it. The only modern part of running it is a 2s lipo, mainly for convenience, the steady voltage and extended run time. I live out in a rural area so I barley even get any glitches on AM, FM is even better. I also run 2.4ghz in some of my other stuff so I have quite the variety.

Thank You!

I don't see anything "bad" about modern electronics, I just like to run vintage components in some of my vintage cars / trucks. I have vintage cars with modern gear as well, really it just depends on what I feel like.  For me, it just brings back good memories of simpler times, I built my first kit (The Hornet) in 1985.  That first Tamiya kit got me started in RC Racing, etc.

Thanks! It's actually a really dark Blue, it's a pretty old paint job with the old 80's decals. I thought about re-painting it,  but I kinda liked the "patina" going to leave it just as it is! I live out in a rural area so I don't even get any glitches on AM, I like running the old school electronics, brings back childhood memories and simpler times.
