Been wondering if the stock clod suffers from bad steering in part due to the factory servo saver built into the bell cranks?

What if you used the upgraded alloy bell crank below from UK Monsters that eliminates that along with stronger linkages?? Today's metal geared servos don;t really need servo savers unless it's an all-out basher.

Just trying to avoid putting servos on the axles as it takes away from the stock look i'm trying to keep.

I've just rebuilt my Dad's Bullhead, that now belongs to my Wife, since he passed away a few years ago. I've put the UK Monsters servo relocation upgrades on. Initially I also fitted two Kimbrough servo savers, but they prevented the wheels from turning unless the truck was moving. Tonight I fitted some alloy horns instead, and it's next level. I've told my wife to be a little careful about hitting stuff, but I'm sure it'll be ok. (sorry for poor pics, it's currently sat in my lounge and the lighting is on low)

@toyolien I did exactly the same and hit the outside doorstep and instantly stripped the gears in a PowerHD 20kg servo, I wasnt driving all out either. Thankfully I could replace them and the servo lived on. I put some savers on after that.

hello

i do not know if it makes better, but my clod has servo with horn at top facing down, gives it more of straight throw on steering arm.

Yep. I switched mine round on the bullhead so that the servo horn faces down.

Yes the 80s servo saver is one of the root causes for the poor steering, also the way Tamiya routes the steering rods is also counter productive, flop them, add the largest metal servo saver you can find and lock out the servo saver on the gearboxes (eliminate the spring) and the steering is vastly improved.  On axles servos is the best but they kill the looks of the Clod in my opinion.

Yeah, the steering is the weak point on this great truck. I'm gonna build a retro race Clod and will be using two JConcepts BAS steering kits. I want to be able to do 2ws, 4ws and crab.

Age old issue.

Various super easy fixes which don't require mods just a different servo horn. No need for servo savers or the standard horn in a Clod with modern high torque servos.
