Ooh a Falcon and some other interesting stuff. Never done this before but I might have a little pop.

Some bargains had (not by me).  Boxed Madcap with Hicaps and unused tyres went for around £200 plus fees.

Well, I got a bit carried away there.

@naturbo2000 the Madcap was me. Fees etc on top total 27% so maybe not such a bargain. I clocked the shocks and figured it looks dead tidy and so the premium over less good ones I've seen is probably worth it, with fingers crossed for what's beneath. And I got a telling off by the auctioneer, which was worth the extra £20. It's a car I've fancied a dabble at for ages and I'd always have upgraded to some kind of oil shocks.

Then I popped a rather weird bid in on a Honda city thing and won that. Oops.

Finally I bought the cheaper used Falcon too (there was also a NIB one but NIB really isn't me although I did bid). So I had to turn the computer off and go for a walk. The Falcon looks reasonably tidy too but it's hard to tell.

Does this make me some sort of collector? I suppose I'll have to build a shelf.

I really fancied a mini and they went for much less than you see them on ebay for but still more than I wanted to pay. Some other things looked like bargains too but they weren't really my bag and the Astute and Dyna Storm were too rich for me (but weren't they pretty?).

@BuggyDad then I expect to see the Madcap at a future Tamiya Junkies meet,  even if you don't run it.  😀

I had a couple of bids on the F103GTs, which went for quite sensible prices (above my bids).

Same here - a few cheeky bids, but nothing I ended up winning, though I’m kinda regretting not bidding higher on the F40 shell parcel.

I apologise if I have cost you some money! I caught some of the auction on my lunch at work, but things seemed to be going high, so glad you got a ‘bargain’ so to speak.

Im waiting for the auction results to be posted

What did the Dyna Storm and Astute go for?

A single collector selling up, or maybe they stockpile many sellers items until they have enough for one big sale?

It looked really interesting but I couldnt get time to get involved. Did anyone get the original Wild Willy that was with something else? I was tempted by that. And there was a wierd one that said it was a hotshot but as well as the usual horizontal shock at the front it also had 2 upright shocks at the front like a supershot.

Massive thank you to @Kpowell911 for the heads up here, I’ve never heard of Vectis and  I’m so chuffed with how I allowed myself to also get a bit carried away!

I only looked at this site very very late last night just before bed, if only I saw it earlier lol, however once I figured out you could filter the listings ( there were some 600 for sale today)  by category, I could then find the Tamiya’s for sale amongst the other types and models for sale.

I like to think I know a pretty rare car when it comes up for sale and there was lots on this auction, some pre built with painted shells, others still new in pack and unpainted shells with hop ups chucked in the boxes, where did they get all these from?

A single collector selling up, or maybe they stockpile many sellers items until they have enough for one big sale?

No idea, I’m just glad they have these sorts of sales!

So this morning was pretty busy for me, I had already committed to helping an elderly friend move house today with an early start collecting a hire van so I knew it would be impossible for me to monitor the auction site all day and wait for the interesting items to come up to bid, a nervous day was spent trying to gauge the rough times I’d need to be online etc, I missed a few but I also got a few too.

It started badly as I immediately lost the first auction I was interested in which was the NIB Wild Dagger - so bummed I missed that, I’ve never seen a boxed, unpainted and unbuilt one for sale before, I think it went for £150 ish, I was bidding but got distracted for a few seconds and next thing I know I’ve been out bid and it’s started the next item lol.

I think the pricing is misleading though, I think you add 27% then the shipping cost which might be about £22 - a £150 winning bid could end up at £212 total cost.

Anyhow I was undeterred because there were some cars here that I’ve never seen for sale before,  heck there was even a few Tamiya cars I’d never even heard of before, like a couple made in collaboration with Carson, plus all those Leman style Jaguars, Porsches etc

@BuggyDad congrats on that Honda City Turbo, I built a brand new one  back in 2016 and it was not so rare then, a real cute little car with a London taxi turning circle that made for fun close quarters driving although it lacked real top end speed on a silver can and 2s lipo… but it’ll pop a wheelie. ( If I’d kept it now it’d be worth a small fortune as it was  done box art with original box - but I sold in in my 2019 sell off to fund a 1:1 car and that time only got a couple hundred quid)

I digress, back to my auction stories, so during the day I had to balance not being rude and chatting with my friend ( senior than me so I need to be respectful when they are chatting away) and sneakily glancing at my phone to see which Lot Numbers they were upto, and what was approaching, it made for quite a fun day, much better than a normal Tuesday!

That’s enough waffling, here’s the shakedown on what I got outbid on :

Tamiya Wild Dagger NIB
Nissan 300ZX IMSA GTO NIB

Stadium Blitzer - built painted green

Mercedes Benz SLK M02-L NIB ( I think I was out in but can’t be sure 😂)

That’s  the bad news, the good news is I think I have won the following ( I say think as I’m not 100% sure as I can’t work out how to read the bid history it shows green and red buds and I couldn’t pay full attention during the bids!)

Jeep Wrangler - although looking at it closely I can’t see a shell in the box, that would be a bummer if it’s missing 🤦

Porsche Boxster NIB looks complete

BMW M Roadster NIB looks complete

Porsche Carrera GT NIB looks complete

Mini Cooper S 2006 M03L - boxed, body painted, chassis built with pink friction shocks.

F103GT with Advan Courage LC70 bodyshell. Built chassis - could very well be my old one with this same shell which I sold in 2019 😂

Audi TT Carson Dickie - 52222 - NIB - I’ve never seen this before but it looks beautiful.

So looking at the above it’s potentially 7 (8 if I get the SLK) cars, I’m so excited to get these models I almost don’t care how much they’ve cost!

Oh yeah, the Madcap is destined for Junkies and it'll be run (lightly).

What did the Dyna Storm and Astute go for?

I think the Astute went for about £250, the Dyna Storm a fair bit more IIRC. But I couldn't see prices after the bidding ended so relying on my (rubbish) memory.

I watched that Wild Willy and was wondering which one it might be, but since I have no clue about them I wasn't going to bid, even though I think they're fab. It went for not much.

I bid when he was just about to do the hammer thing. To be fair though, a few seconds elapsed between me hitting the button and him getting the info.

Yeah I called them up about 4:30 to check this.. if you had ticked a box under your payment method about  automatic invoice or something then they will charge your registered card tomorrow morning when they send out the sales invoices…

If you didn’t tick that box you’ll get the email invoices tomorrow and then you go pay manually.

Posting this feels like tempting fate, but hey ho. I'm just going off comparing a few details from one pic to manuals and whatnot but the humpback battery and roll bar up the back, screws in the front wheels and the bumper made me wonder whether this is a Willy's Wheeler. I reckon those elements are on the Wheeler and not the HCT. It's not something I've researched before though, so I'm making it up as I go along.

Honda City Turbo auction pic

If it is, bargaintastic. If it's not then I reckon I've overpaid* but not disastrously so, so that's kind of OK too.

I've always felt that to have one of the Willy models would be a real bit of classic Tamiya, and even if it's a different chassis rerelease it'd still be that. The other comicals never got my juices flowing but the Wild WIlly and the Wheeler always did very much.

*I don't know the market value, more just a gut feel "to me" value. I'm not good at selling stuff so today's market value for something that's desirable today but may not maintain its desirability (or in my possession its condition) would be a foolish number for me to base decisions on IMO.
