I wasn't sure if this justified it's own thread or not, but it's not 'unrelated' so doesn't belong in The Lounge either.

Anyone who follows BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) or has done for the last 10 years might be familiar with the name. Jake has come close to winning the overall championship in the last few years and is currently 2nd in the standings.

Anyway, enough rambling. Turns out -

How cool is that? And what incredible taste I must say

If only my collection was as well-built (instead of half-built) and if only my day job was half as interesting as being a full-time racing driver!

Had to share. Sorry Mods if this is not the appropriate place for such a thread!

A few Australian race car drivers are also into RC, not guide to this level, but they have been known to show up and race from time to time. I dont follow BTCC, but I might have to now, I have a favourite driver now 😂

COOL!!

Last weekend I went to watch the BTCC qualifying at Thruxton with my daughter.  We missed the morning session but arrived during the lunchbreak, so I still got to see an hour of BTCC quali alongside some other qualifiers and some racing too - including Mini 7s, Mini Miglia, and most exciting of all, Formula 4.  I would have liked to go for race day too, but I expect that would be a lot busier.  As it was, quali day was busy enough but not too busy - it was possible to walk around, buy a hot dog, go on the fairground rides, and there were plenty of other kids for my daughter to roll down the bank with while I stood on the highest point to watch the racing.  The atmosphere was superb, it felt like a very friendly and welcoming place, and we had a long walk through the paddock looking at all the cars, the Fortec racing drivers were standing in front of their paddock tent ready to talk to fans, and the BTCC cars were epic sliding around the track, even if it was only qualifying.

I saw Hill's car go racing past on the start-finish straight several times, it's quite a strange feeling to see cars whizzing past with names that I've seen on the TV so much over the past few years.  I haven't watched it seriously for a while so I didn't really have a driver to root for, but I think now I do.  I'll definitely keep an eye on the calendar and might do race day next year if I can.  Thruxton is only an hour from me and tickets aren't really that expensive (quali was £18 for adults booked online, even the day before the event, and kids go free).

He posts on various FB Groups I'm on. I know nothing about his race career (my friend tells me he is a very very very highly regarded BTCC Driver) but his collection (that until this video Ive only saw in the back ground of pictures) is very similar to my collection goals! Great video, thanks for sharing!

Imagine owning that McLaren that McLaren themselves owned!

Jake is a very, very good driver.  I follow BTCC and this season he's right up there at the top of the table fighting with previous champions (Ash Sutton, Tom Ingram and Colin Turkington).  In fact, he seems to be getting more out of the BMW than his team mate Colin.  Jake is a real title challenger this year.

Great to see he's a Tamiya fan!

So much to like about that video and Jake Hill.

Great spot and thanks for sharing it.

I’m a big BTCC fan and I was at Thruxton last Sunday with my nephew 👍

Thanks for posting that. That track looked insane!

It's a great track, not the biggest but great facilities (for the UK!), runs weekly on a Weds and fortnightly on a Sunday I think, burger/food hut open most of the time as well. Meetings nearly always run even if wet or worse as well. They normally host a round of the 4wd or FWD Touring car national series each year

I watched that video sometime ago , some great kits there . I think Jake stands a good chance at the title this year due to the qualifying and hybrid boost allocation changes etc , things have had a good old shake up which is what Alan Gow intended , as in getting more variety of winners rather than the same names on the podium , but Jake has already turned that over .
