Bronze Bushing wearing out steel?

Is there any possibility that bronze bushings are coming into contact with some other metal that causes corrosion and that corrosion is then rubbing away at the steel shaft?

I don't claim to know enough about the chemistry involved to say whether it is possible or not, but it sounds like it might be. Anybody know for sure?
