M-08 SWB Carpet Suspension Settings

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered, I tried a few searches but couldn’t find what I was looking for.

Been running my M-08 on the local carpet track a few times and now I have got my driving attuned to the car and learnt the track, I’m looking to try some new suspension.  (Reason being I’ve just bought a Fat Fox for truck racing and had to get another set of oil filled shocks anyway, thought it would be a good chance to optimise the suspension setup on the race car)

So I have a set of 50mm Yeah Racing aluminium dampers with 5 spring choices and 6 piston choices 😵💫  It came with 300cst oil, I’ve also got Tamiya yellow and clear oils in the tool box too.

Any advice warmly received 👍

Don't know specifically for the m08, but my experience if the yeah racing dampers is that the springs are very stiff and quite variable. The dampers themselves are pretty good, but try getting the Tamiya Short Spring 2 set which will get you good springs.

Thank you, I’ll look into those, even the red super soft springs from YR seem very stiff!

Ive currently built the dampers with 3 hole “V” pistons with the slow rebound as I’ve come across a couple of positive comments about that setup for carpet surfaces.  Also found some carpet setups on FB group for M-08 with 400 or 450 cst oil so I used my Tamiya yellow rather than the supplied oil from YR.

I also find the yeah racing ones stiff. On the M08 you want softer rear but I suspect the red yeah racing ones are too stiff so you probably need to get hold of a set of the tamiya shorter 50mm springs, red/yellow/blue then run red read and yellow front to start with

As a side note if you don't mind a bit of driving, Carlisle rc club run outdoors at Warwick Bridge and we run m chassis and a truck class, next round is a week Sunday https://www.facebook.com/groups/133652860127994/

A heads up though, M08 outdoors especially on that bumpy track is tricky, only tried mine briefly and had to laugh...will give it another go! My M07 however is great. Some of the trucks bounce all over the place as they have the kit friction dampers lol (oil filled allowed)

Thank you for the heads up on the Carlisle track, next Sunday I’m already committed elsewhere but have joined the Facebook group and would be great to pay a visit and try a bit of outdoor racing 👍

Heading over to the nearest model shop tomorrow for a new Euro Truck build, will see if they have some Tamiya short springs in stock while I’m there!

Just in case this is helpful to anyone who searches for suspension setups, I did a couple trials at the track tonight and found the following springs worked nicely:

Fastrax 55mm blue (soft) springs on the rear, Yeah racing 50mm yellow (soft but actually not very soft) springs on the front.  Front adjustment screws turned out to compensate for 5mm difference in length.

Oil 400 cst, 3 hole v pistons on both.
