I'd not visited the game for a while, but then came across it again today and had a quick blast.

The top leader boarder seems to have gone a bit stagnent so I'm going to change it to display the best times of the last seven days. You still be able to find the best ever times, if you want via a link on the page.

Just wondering though how some of the times are sooooo quick. Before anyone start guessing at things like super new computers etc, I'd expect this to have negligioble effect as the game is running 'under speed' which means the rate it runs at should be the same on all but the oldest of machines. its not the processor that is limiting the speed its the game itself - if I took off the speed limits then sure it would have an effect, although I think it would actually make it unplayable as it would be just a blur. Its basically not a demanding application at all.

So I'd like to put it down to driver skill, luck and spending tooo much time playing.

That said, I'd be real interested if one of our top drivers can create a movie of their race to prove it can be done and give us a clue on the best racing lines. Not quite sure how you can do that with flash, so if anyone has an idea then please post here. (and before anyone tries faking one, we must clearly be able to see the stopwatch, so we can be sure its not speeded up)

Well I ve just upgraded my PC from a XP2100, 512ram and Geforce 3 to a AMD-64 3000, 1Gig ram and 6800 PCI Expess Graphics card and it runs no different. Just had a go at Clumber again and on my second go got 36.518 with my best at 34.564. I ll try and capture a movies when I ve got more time![;)]

I don't know anything about computers but a while ago a mate of mine upgraded my computer (sorry don't know what he did) and my times on all tracks nearly halved! [:)] My old computer setup was really slow at everything (especially when bidding on ebay[;)]). Still running Windows 98 if that makes a difference.

Nothing wrong with Win98, as long as its w98SE.

Was still using 98SE right up until last weekend... spent all w/e

transferring over to XP - finally bit the bullet & jumped in.

XP runs a little faster (could be from OS bloat) but

now my ancient ProAudiStudio16 soundcard doesn't work!!! [?]

(Now someone tells me MediaVision went bust in 1996??! [:(] )

On a very slow (old) PC would it just have less frames per second or would it slow down? In the first case it would be a disadvantage as you wouldn't be able to control as often, in second case it would an advantage as game would run slower and you would have more time to react [:)].

Cheers

On a very old machine, I think you would get the same number of frames but they would just play slower. This is based on the fact that in the flash you have to tell how many frames are in the movie and it has to play every one.

I tested it on several different spec machines, on an automated route ie all cars running the exact same course and the times were the same. Which i how i would expect it to work (the cars could go faster but my coding fixes the speed not the pc) The only place the pcs speed would limit it is if my speed limit was too great for it. I've not found one where this is the case yet. That said I've never tested it under win 98.

On the other hand I'm running on two very high spec machines and I can't get anywhere near those top times (but I guess thats because I'm just rubbish)

Just guessing but seems logical from what I know, it might have something to do with

1. Your PC if it is very old and slow (not bought in the last 2 years)

2. Your version of flash? This is a guess

3. Something else to do with how your machine is set up. Other applications running etc etc
