RC10T Re-Re

Recommended Posts

Hello folks, my next project is a RC10T re-release. I am more a buggy fan, but this truck will hopefully be a nice addition to my fleet. Plans are to build it close to the original, except for bearings (already on their way from the UK) and a brushless system (17.5 or maybe 15.5). I plan to paint it in a combination of light grey and red. And it will be a runner for sure. :) Last night I finished bag A, went well so far!

I spent a good amount of time assembling the turnbuckles. While that is never something to look forward to, these white ball cups are particularly hard to work with.

In order to make life a bit easier a surplus standard tool was "modified"...

They are pretty tough, nice use of using what's on hand to overcome some adversity!

Spent some more time on the chassis. The Servo is a budget friendly AMEWI 5508MG. If it turns out to be junk, it can always be swapped for something better. As it was quite hot in the workshop, I treated myself to a beer.

The rest of the car will have to wait till next week. Tomorrow we are going to  Hockenheim to see AC/DC.

The build is looking very good.  I can live vicariously through you and this build while I collect the parts to build mine.

This is where we are today. The suspension and gearbox are finished and the wheels are built.

Next steps will be completing the chassis and fitting the electronics. I have ordered a 17.5t sensored brushless motor from Ruddog which I will combine with a Hobbywing Justock ESC.

Everything went together very smoothly so far. Compared to the RC10Ts manual, I do prefer the more detailed layout of Tamiya manuals, though. ;)

Looks nice, is it just me or is your servo mounted backwards? Love the skinny front tires.

Hmmm, I tried to follow the instructions. Will check the servo position!

Finished the chassis and put in the motor (which meant searching for two fitting bolts first, as they are not part of the kit). The front wheels are at a funny angle and will need adjusting.

Next steps will be fitting the electronics and painting the body, which has already been partially masked.

how soft are those tires?

looks great so far.

They are a bit on the harder side, I'd say. There are no foams in them, but a plastic band.

Thats probably a good thing for originality but will leave some performance to be gained from better tires.

Yeah, I thought that, too. I have ordered a set of Traxxas Anacondas for running it.

Man that is going to cruise over anything. Nice job on the build so far. Something about the freaky long suspension travel on these is just so cool. Keep it up! And didn’t Jr, or maybe it was BK come out with a rebar pattern rear for these guys that hooks up on about anything? Curious to see what the Anaconda pattern looks like.

What are you going to use for wheels?

Anacondas are 2.8 size bead, youll either need to convert the driveshafts, hubs, castor blocks and steering hubs to 12mm hexes or get tires with a 2.2 bead and associated wheels.

They are 2.2 and will be fitted to AE wheels. :)

I have made some progress. The chassis is more or less completed. It features a Hobbywing Justock ESC and a Ruddog 17.5T BL motor. Being not great at soldering I was quite relieved when all connections were finished and working! I have fitted a 21t pinion for a start. The Anaconda tires were a bad idea for a truck, I will use them on one of my buggies. The RC10T will be fitted with something else. Work on the body has started (non-box art), but I will reveal that once finished and stickered up. :-)

Are they the bandit rears?

Sorry, I had missed your reply! What you see in the pictures are the tires that come with the kit.

Here is the body fully painted. The base colour is PS-32, the stripes are PS-60. The rollcage was painted from outside with flat black. All-in-all I am pretty happy with the result!
