I would love to find a way to fit both a sealed gear diff and different spurs for gearing adjustment into the Blitzer gearbox.....

I would just like a sealed oil gear diff for the Blitzer gearbox. That I haven't been able to find anywhere.

Hey @ruebiracer you listed all the slipper parts but could you also tell me a bit more about the diff itself? Which parts exactly and how fitted into the diff case there? Is it 51549?

Having realised that my donor car Blitzer spur is in poor condition I think I will follow your mod rather than replace stock parts, to gear up my Falcon, then most likely use the old Falcon parts in the Blitzer.

Not sure how @ruebiracer has mounted it, but 51549 is the starting point for the TB04 diff. Whenever I google it though the new XV02 gear diff 22049 keeps popping up, so I wonder if that is the same parts just all pulled together into a kit? With TB04 parts, you need 51549, 51554 and some seals as well.

Thanks. That's helpful.

Looking at the TB04 Manual, I think the diff is made up of:

51549 casing, bevel gears and cross axles, all plastic

51554 drive cups seem to include their pins, shims and o rings

51553 is the gasket and may include o rings too.

Then standard stuff like bearings and diff shims.

So I think the remaining mystery at this point is how the 4 hole pattern TB04 diff

TB04 diff manual extract

is held firm and centred inside the 3 hole Blitzer diff gear ring

Blitzer diff manual extract

@ruebiracer this is the bit of your magic I haven't deciphered!

Would that new Xtraspeed gear diff that fits in a Top Force/DF01 diff casing work? That will attached to the 3 point bevel mouldings inside the diff gear as Tamiya diff gears are mostly the same on buggies. Plus it will definitely work with 1150 bearings on the outdrives. Might be worth a look?

Whoa! That's the stuff I've already got (for DT-03).

I wonder. I haven't got the Blitzer with me...

It does look like it might. In fact, the casing looks like it could be that one, but how secured into the Blitzer casing?

Excellent. A plan with no drawbacks!

Maybe......

That makes me go hmmmm....!

I'm excited to see if this works. I'm a sealed Gear Diff fan myself. (Hate fiddling with Ball Diffs!)

I've had decent luck with ball diffs so far and find myself the accidental owner of quite a few, but on balance I'd prefer sealed gear diffs for the wide range of adjustment and ability to set with consistency.

Precisely! I've even made sealed gear diffs for TT-02 and DT-02s.... out of the stock diffs.

So this diff casing is a direct fit, which is why I hadn't clocked any modification info. None is required....

The Xtra Speed casing has tabs that go into the tabs in the Blitzer diff housing meant for the diff bevel gear spider.

Edit: precisely as @ThunderDragonCy said!

That is absolutely awesome!! Like it's made to fit.

It really is. So @ruebiracer please ignore my previous question, which simply had not appreciated there were the tabs to match it perfectly to these 3-bevel diffs.

So I guess that this case specifically is a necessity as 51549 does not appear to have the tabs. Does anything else or is this one unique?

I idly wonder do most tamiya 3 gear diffs rotate the gears around the same diameter? Where they do I'd think a good chance of a fit.

It LOOKS like it might fit DT-02/03.... which could also mean Hornet Evo. But I'm guessing by appearances only.

Pretty sure it does with some light mods (I think have to drill out the hole in the gear case just a little). That's what I bought it for.

Edit: yes, see here:

It looks to me that the correct parts list for the diff mod is:

  • The Xtra speed diff case
  • 51553 gaskets
  • 54533 cross shafts
  • 54540 bevel gears
  • 51554 joint cups

I bought 54543 in place of 51554 and so I am missing the shims, pins and o-rings required. So I just put this here as a heads up to anyone else considering the same diff build. I should also add the caveat that I haven't yet got 51554. The bearings and bushings required are, I think, included but I need to assemble it fully to be entirely sure.

So if you want to upgrade to the nice slop-free 54543 cups, it's over and above, unless you've got all the right shims, o-rings and pins in stock. But 51554 has all that and is not horribly expensive.

Sorry guys, been on a business trip last 2 weeks. It´s exactly the Xtra Speed gear diff housing that I used, inspired by @wtcc´s diff mod in a DT02/03 gear box.

Fixation is done from the rear with the 4 holes also used for closing the case. I´ll make some pics for you all. You can complete the diff as you like from the various TB04 internals and outdrives.
