I must admit that my initial enthusiasm for this model is being tempered somewhat by the price. Especially considering that a TD2 can be had for less. Totally different buggies I know, but still...

Hmm ... that is also a way to think about it.

I tend towards that sort of thinking and end up in a gravitational mind-well: "Euaaargh... can't choose ... need to buy something, whatever, now!" and end up getting a Egress Extra Evo with hopups when I started out wanting a Grasshopper. Hopefully you are a bit stronger of mind. :D

The TD2 costs way more money here in the USA. 🙁

Or does the Hornet evo cost less here?🤔

There are several shops doing "blowout" deals on TD2s at the moment with very big reductions, and they're available around £155.  The Hornet Evo is around £179 on pre-order.

I'm curious whether or not you can adapt the Evo parts to a Lunchbox tub.

I'm very curious too. I have one on preorder.

On that train of thoughts I have also bought a brand new fully assembled DT3 with black CVA's and a motor to try and make some kind of montero/pajero chassis """EVO""" with double wishbone suspension.
To my defense, It cost less than buying all the parts to make a complete dt-02/03 gearbox .

no vintage parts will be harmed, I will use a cracked CW-01 that i have fixed after fitting a fresh one on my lunchbox  and other parts i have lying around.

i'll see if the hornet evo parts that attach the gearbox and front wishbone/steering will fit the cw01 without adding the lower part (like in the original montero/pajero chassis).

Then because i'm cheap i'll reverse engineer and 3d print them :D

A little late to the party,  but I just saw the review from RC Driver and I like what I see. It's surprisingly planted on that surface,  which minus the jumpsuiten is pretty similar to the conditions where I run.

Put a set of JC Racing Wild One wheels on it (maybe go for JC Racing Optima Pepper Pots on the rear) and the looks are spot on. My brother used to run Fox wheels on his Hornet and GH2 BITD,  so to me that wheeldesign belongs there. Or of course the obvious Kyosho Turbo Scorpion wheels, which will maintain the OE looks.

My wife made an astute observation last night. While the TD2 has come way down in price and may well go up again in the future, the Hornet Evo is unlikely to go up in price anytime soon, but may well come down. So now is the time to order a TD2, and the Hornet Evo can come further down the line.

(She also made the observation that a Saint Dragon would be a good companion for my Thunder Shot, and for not much more than the price of a Grasshopper, it is too good a deal to pass up, so we ordered one of those too. I love my wife! 😁)

Would she consider consulting other wives in the sense of buying RC equipment? ;)

Although the Hornet Evo might not be available when you want one later on?

Possible, but I think it will be around for a while, and I'm sure I'll get one eventually. It was back in the '90s when I first thought I might fancy a Group C in my fleet, and it only took 3 decades for it to happen. 😁

Ah, it'll be alright. This is Tamiya we're talking about, not numbered, holo-foil stickered RC10s with baked in FOMO.

I was hoping to get one for Christmas from Mrs Yogi-bear, but one of the local hobby shops has it listed as a late Jan 2025 arrival :( so maybe not, but I'll put on my big boy pants and cope :D I suspect they'll be around for sometime.

Yep lol, AMain has the Hornet Evo at 154$ (there's a coupon...) while the TD2 is 290$.

I was just thinking - DT-02 Holiday buggy users that lament how the wheels stick out - I think this is your solution, at least for the rear.  I mean without the 20+mm hex, just a normal one...  That might tuck the rear wheels all the way under the body.

😲No way! I wonder if they have shipped to the hobby shops yet🤔. I know one that has a few on order.

With AMain showing them in-stock I ordered mine today as well as another Grasshopper II. $249 for both with the 10% off coupon they're running for Black Friday!

I fully intend to make a Grasshopper II EVO!  This is going to be fantastic.

Manual

Nice to see the manual. Apologies if that was already discussed, but would the Manta Ray ball diff and splined outdrives fit then?

Bonus points for the ability to use a to 380 motor, for that original vibe.

I never gave in to buying a GH re-re but now I am starting to think of a GH Evo project as well @Tamiyastef!

Not sure, but I don't see why the optional DT02 ball diff with splined outdrives wouldn't work.

Actually you're not alone. Someone on here used the term and I had to look it up too. Now I'm throwing it around like one of the cool kids. Still not sure why my daughter refers to everything a "sus" yet.
