As @toyolien mentioned earlier in this thread I don't think the moulding was altered but they used the "rising fighter" parts again

Hmm yes it looks that way actually. Not the same parts but the same concept

Exactly my thoughts! I don't know why they jumble up all that junk on top of the shock body to connect it to the shock tower, if they eliminated it all and hooked the shock top into the shock tower another way you could have gained much more shock travel. I

Hmmm, elimiate BA15, rotate shock 180, remove the end of the shock and thread directly in the M3 bolt then attach the now bottom of the shock to the lower arm. That could work but angles could be funny? Even that bracket is wasting a few mm.

Keep in mind that Grasshopper/Hornet tubs are like $15. Cheap and easy enough to try chopping off the stock towers and making something else, maybe something like the old Parma/You-G aluminum tower from the '80s.

This is not going to be perfect. But it's built from known parts arranged in a new way, and it looks like it's going to be reasonably priced and better equipped than we're used to, with bearings and CVA shocks in the box. It's going to be a great tinkerer's platform, maybe the best one from Tamiya in a very long time, and I can't wait.

This was the kind of thing I was thinking of. I think I've seen someone take the stock cap and shave the eyelet off, drill a hole through it, and have an m3 screw coming through, too. It's the other side of the diaphragm, so it doesn't affect the operation or anything.

should allow you to swap a super mini CVA for a mini one, or if it's already a mini, get full range from it.

Yeah I agree, I said a few pages ago that extending the shock towers can be done pretty simply. I think altering the shock cap could work too. Cut the eyelet off, drill a hole and insert a machine screw, basically.

Well flames... not so sure about it now but according to my original GH manual 14 year old me would have gone completely WILD :D

Apparently I'm still 14 years old!

On the subject of the Hornet EVO, I'm curious if the new one-piece 1.9" wheels will line up correctly with the width of the front/rear track. Assuming the wheelbase has stayed 267ish, the EVO chassis could be a good base for a simple rear-engine RWD touring or rally car (Renault, Porsche 911, Supra, etc.) with a quick swap of the body mounts.

Honestly I think almost everyone here on TC is still around that age :D

The car looks great! Is that a Parma body? I keep hoping a Grasshopper EVO will appear. Not that we can't make one ourselves, but I really do hope Tamiya will do it themselves, for the boxart, a lexan body (very unlikely but one can always dream) and bad*** Grasshopper stickers.

Hmm definitely very poor travel at the front.

Probably won't matter that much in real world use, but it's still kind of frustrating.

Looks like the arms can just about get parallel to the ground at full compression.....that's pretty much where you want the middle point to be on a typical off road setup.

Definitely my least favourite aspect, even though I know it probably won't matter all that much in practice.

Clearly the original tub was off limits for modifying. The stock towers are so small, and the U bracket mounting solution wastes a fair bit of space, too, so clearly it was the only shock they could use.

I wonder if they bottomed out because of the way they added kick up to the front suspension...  It looks like the arms get a special screw to hold tight under grueling conditions...

That steering link and that servo head don't line up - something is afoot with the steering system...

It’s because the steering is at full lock when the suspension is demonstrated in the video.  There is less bump-steer on the left side, but there is still bump steer on the RHS front wheel.

In this picture only the left steering seems connected to the servo horn. Maybe that's one of the issue's why we have to wait until end November before it's available

yes, that would work well, but might be a pain to tighten if the M3 socket is inside? Simply cutting off the eyelet and tapping might work, if there is enough to make a thread. Either way there must be better ways.

I think the one I saw before, the screw came out of the cap and then a thin nut was installed to sort of pinch the screw tight against the cap. Then the screw went through the tower and another nut to tighten it. Possibly a rubber grommet or 1 or 2 o rings in there too, to allow a small freedom of movement.

I think it might have been on a Sonic fighter but the concept is the same.

To me it looks like a bell crank and steering bridge system.   I wonder if it could be similar to what I did on my build thread.

You can see it in the video as quoted at 1:29:30 from the underside.   Then later at 1:30:15 from the front.

it does indeed. Your eyesight is way better than mine, well spotted.

The more I see of this release the more I'm convinced I'm not gonna wait for Tamiya to release the Grasshopper EVO...

Price is a bit steep  IMO.

Pre-order for the EVO at Tamico is €188,10.  The Sand Viper (also with CVA's and ball bearings but without the HW ESC) is only €101,67. I recently (last week) bought a 47429 (limited edition ;)) TT-01E Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 997 2008 without ESC for €71,17 @Kleinkramm.

So you can have a very "similar" buggy and a (limited edition) on road car for less than one EVO...

185 euros pre-order at Tamico - delivery end of November, if someone wants to get their wallet out now. :)

It certainly looks that way, though!

I'll probably end up with one but with that price tag I don't feel the need pre-ordering this for now.

I assume (dangerous I know) it will be around for a while...

This looks fun. I'll have to get a couple and run one outside for fun. It'll bring back memories. Tamiya knows how to reel us all in.

That's what I'm thinking.  It's a 58xxx model number, so not a limited release, so I'm also not going to bother pre-ordering one.  There should be plenty around to be able to pick one up late this year/early next.

It's hard to judge how much total demand there will be, and how broadly the product appeals to people.    I'm not really sure if younger generation fans would be enthusiastic about it.     However I expect the initial sales will go crazy, because there are people who are still very passionate about the vintage Hornet and Grashopper.
