Hi guys,

I’m trying to get back into RC, i have a Tamiya M05 with a mini shell that i got years ago for my birthday, i built it and just had fun with it outside the house, then life got in the way and its been in storage since.

I recently picked up 2 x Nitro Terra Crushers and the guy chucked in a Tamiya Dirt Thrasher which seems to have seen better days, i’ve tried to get it working but i can’t seem to resolve the issues.

it seems to have a mind of its own, wheels turn without me pressing anything on the receiver and the motor won’t spin, but then sometimes it does.

it also seems to go backwards much faster than forwards when it works.

any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the club!

That issue is wire connected wrong somewhere. Most ESCs go slower backward, so if you go forward slow, that means motor wires are connected the other way around.  It's not easy to do it wrong on the battery wires, so 99% of the times, it's the motor wires.  Then the throttle was reversed on the transmitter.  It's something everybody has done once in their lifetime (unless I'm way slower than others).

You could try changing + side and - side of the motor, and then reverse the throttle on the radio, and see if that revolves it.

Electronics may have just gone bad if it’s been sat for a while, corrosion on connections etc

welcome to the club by the way I’m also new here,

if you drop me a private message with your address I will post you a new esc and a silver can as I have a fair few doing nothing as I change all my builds to brushless

They might aswell get some use rather than collect dust!  Good karma and all that

If it really is that old and bad, you are better off putting in new electrics. Perhaps a new servo and radio gear to go with the free ESC and motor you get from @Gun Slinger 393.

When I 'reactivated' my 10 years old cars, I put in new radio gear (from the AM stuff) and never looked back.

i’ve taken the old electronics out ready for new bits to go in. if it works then will strip it all down and clean it up and rebuild the thrasher 👍🏼
