RC10DS re-release coming

Recommended Posts

These guys are killing me with the back to back to back rereleases.  Luckily Tamiya’s recent releases are kits I am either not greatly interested in or already own. So I have funds available for these Associated kits.

I'm with ya brother.

I'm trying to avoid looking at other RC brands these past few months because I believe AE still has more to come.

They have everything and my RC budget this year is wrecked.

Nothing vintage coming from them for the past 10 years and now suddenly, they are re-releasing vintage kits every couple months.  :)

According to modelsport in the uk we are going to get a next delivery of RC10 40th anniversary mid September? Is this a continuation of RC10 classic chassis numbers or is this the RC10DS with the mistaken picture? Or both?

My personal guess is that the 40th will return without the numbered chassis as a broader release.  The Associated website just calls them as out of stock and not discontinued so I do think there are more to come at some point.

Are you kidding? Now? Now that I no longer have any paved surfaces on which to drive such a thing? Maaaan...

Here's my question, as someone who likes to run their RC cars, how well does AE plan on supporting these constant re-releases once the initial hype fades away?

Or are they just intended for collectors?

Now that I got back into the RC10GT so heavily guess what kit they will probably never re issue... thats right the GT

That's my concern as well.

The market for RC10 spares might not be larger enough to keep multiple suppliers afloat so do I buy from AE or FanRC?

I reckon the answer is both - and hope for the best.

Yes, I see that.  They are saying "expected late July" so that's cool.

No mention of it being a limited edition like previous models so I'm uncertain if I really need to pre-order.  I don't expect this one to sell-out as quickly as the RC10 or '10T so I might wait until they arrive to place an order.

For me it's like this.

Plenty of owners of original RC10s would gladly buy some spare idler gears for their old 6-gear transmissions, AE has the tooling (thanks to the re-release), yet our options are still questionable 3D printed parts and scalpers.

On the other hand, I can very easily get new gears for my Super Hornet if I ever need them.

I'd wait until AE spins a second batch before ordering anything. It'd stink to end up with a deadbeat model.

Deadbeat model -- I've had my share of those.

It will be interesting to see if FanRC starts making parts for the DS.

AEs release strategy is very interesting. Nothing in the past 10 years. Then boom 4 very desirable cars in the past 6 months.

As for spares, AE said that they are coming and now hard do you all drive these things. I brake fat more non TRF parts then AE. In fact I've yet to brake an AE part .

Its not just about driving our RCs, some of us would like to be able to restore old AE cars without paying inflated scalper prices.

I run my OG RC10's pretty hard and with brushless/lipo power.  As I recall, the only chassis parts I've ever broken are steering and caster blocks, front and rear arm mounts and maybe a ball cup or two.  I've managed to break idlers in the 6-gears as well.  Honestly, if I'd never hit a tree or a fence post, maybe my broken parts count would be closer to zero.  The RC10 is very durable even by today's standards.

Dog bones, ball cups, hinge pins and shock shafts wear out due to the amount of sand in our soil.  My bearings fail for the same reason but of course replacements are readily available.

I swear I have no affiliation lol. Fan RC offers all other then oddly enough the six gear stuff. How's the new idlers? They seem really tough. Haven't had a chance to run it yet. Build still under way.

It seems everyone is asking for 6-gear idlers.  I don't know how good are the new idlers as my 40th is a shelfer.  Maybe AE will offer them as spares so I can run some tests.

I once cut some metal idlers from a couple worn-out out-drives but they were very noisy (like a coffee grinder) and I worried they might wreck the mating gears.  Apparently the mesh wasn't good despite being the same spec.  Anyway, I replaced them with original black nylon gears.  All quiet now.

As you know, the 6-gear doesn't include a slipper clutch so they can be rough on gears with powerful motors and good traction.

I am becoming less and less excited by these releases.  The CC was cool, the RC10 4th was great.  The RC10T to me was always goofy, slapping wide tyres on a buggy and a body that resembles a soap box. This DS, I like the all black chassis, the wheels look cool, but the Nascar looking body.. meh.  I'm content with the CC and RC10.. now if someone could make the 4wd conversion, that would be awesome.
