Original prices if this helps as a guide

58097 Super Astute (21000 yen) 1991 (RRP today £299.99)

58100 Top Force (21000 yen) 1991 (RRP today £289.99)

58107 Top Force Evolution (38000 yen) 1992 (RRP today £450.00)

58116 Dyna Storm (30000 yen) 1992 (RRP today £390.00

So with a £90 difference between the SA and the DS there, we could be looking at a £330 price tag!? Now that would be a dream

£399 RRP with some places offering it at £369 is where I feel it will be

You might not be far off there mate👍👍

I would guess it would come with Hi-Caps too rather than sleeved dampers

Now that would be a ******* crime!! I don't think they'd do that, well I sincerely hope they wouldn't, as the shocks are so iconic to the DS.

The Dyna Storm was re-released in 2001, 25 years after the first RC model in 1976. I hope (latest) in 2026, that Tamiya do 25/50 years after that the same and not „only“ a new anniversary Porsche😉

Anyone who's built theirs and is running the stock spur/pinion, do you mind sharing how well your pinion/spur mesh up? I'm fitting a basic silver can with a shaft on the shorter side and I'm only getting about half the pinion engaging with spur. I also have about 1-2mm of axial play on the slipper shaft that doesn't help matters (though I can shim that out).

You followed instruction 22 for the mounting end of motor to the far face of the pinion to be 19mm?

I did this including the circular piece that sits between motor and gearbox plate.

I'm just not sure yet whether I should install my custom gearbox (with oil-filled gear diff) for the TRF201 slipper...

…or the one with BBX slipper.

Please, please, can you share info of the gearbox upgrade you have done.
My biggest concern with this awesome SA is the planetary gear Diff. I would love to upgrade it to an oil filled bevel gear diff.

Have you managed to achieve this?
If so, please share what you have done, what parts you used, etc...

I got it as close to 19mm as I could while still getting the set screw to sit entirely on the flat of the shaft, at 19mm it would have overhung the back end of the shaft. I ended up tossing a Sport-Tuned in that is slightly longer and now all but roughly 1mm of the pinion is engaging with the spur.

Edit: What motor are you running? How do things line up?

I’ve fitted an old Trinity Komodo.

The gears are aligned, but the grub screw is probably less than it’s own diameter away from the end of the shaft (second pic).

I found the Super Stock motors fit fine, but nothing else, due to the shorter motor shaft. Which is a shame, this is the kind of car i would like to run in the backyard and the Super Stock is a bit fast for the small space

Thanks for sharing the pics. I swapped out the Sport Tuned and used one of my Yokomo Esprit motors they had done up for the Super Dog Fighter re-re. It's a lot better, though the grub screw is still closer to the end of the shaft than I'd like, but it'll be fine. It being pink is a bonus and matches well with the Super Astute.

@MortisAngelus19: The gearbox based on my original "TRF201 transmission conversion" for the Nissan King Cab and used the Super Astute motorplate. Details of the new gearbox(es), I shard in my build thread >> Sgt.Speirs‘ Nissan King Cab - TRF201 Transmission Conversion & Restoration <<

Parts list for the original one you can find in my corresponding "TC design" thread >> HERE << .

With the failure of Shapeways, where can we get the 3D printed parts?

Did people omit the sponge sheet in step 18? It seems to prevent me from sliding a pack as far as I’d expect it to go.

Maybe fitting a post in the extra chassis hole and a shorty lip is the way to go?

Edit: Read Juhunio’s build thread and he recommended leaving the foam out - as well as the body mounts.

Isn't Shapeways being started back up again?

Yea, but the marketplace isn’t open, and they said that all of the files were irretrievably erased.

I should have bought the case when I had the chance. I have all of the other stuff and a broken 2018 Super Astute. Tamiya hasn’t done a run of the transmission gears in forever, although the planetary diff internals are readily available.

Since the bankruptcy of Shapeways, you can get the 3D printed parts via me directly. Please write me a PM for that.

I managed to knock a few teeth off of the diff gear and counter gear. It was a very frequent runner until then, and had worn out a couple of sets of the planetary diff gears by then.

Just finished my Astute. Upgrades are carbon fiber chassis, hard turnbuckles, Hi-caps, and hex hardware. I found this to be a really good chassis to convert to hex, as there are very few self-tapping screws.

Also first time using wire braiding...that's trickier than it looks! Kudos to you guys who make it look factory :D

Tires are from Blockhead Motors. Custom paint and decals to follow!

Here's mine. This is a cool buggy but it's not the best. The body is hard to take on and off. But I had fun building this and finishing the body. I installed a Yeah Racing bearing kit, THW1060 esc, Tamiya GT Motor, Spektrum 2 channel receiver, T-Works Titanium Turnbuckles and a SPT low profile servo. I also left the windows clear and put he decals over them.
