I am curious about the price this time around. Last time they were $275-$300 USD which seemed pricey to me personally. I got one for the shelf. While I loved the Astute development history lesson it provided, the short front-end travel, low profile servo requirement and quite flexible monoplate chassis (not to mention bushings for the front wheels?) put me off trying to run it. I think I've worked out some chassis tricks since then to avoid dumping more money into a graphite chassis. We'll see. Sometimes the prices drop as was the case for the latest Novafox re-re here in the States. Of course considering the obscene prices the latest RC10 re-re went for, maybe 275-300 ain't bad for a Super Astute. Those numbered holofoil stickers must be expensive, lol.

I thought I got the first 2017 Top Force rere for around $350USD and now its like $279 I think

Won't the shipping cost really kill that deal?

I've had times where it was actually cheaper to order from overseas. RCmart usually charges $65-$85 for shipping to the states, but the kits are priced well below U.S. retailers. Tamico charges a flat $44 euro for shipping, but again usually have the kits priced for less. There are also places like RCJaz, and Stella models HK to check on too. As more shops start taking pre-orders in the next few weeks, it will be a good time to look around.

About to order one of these. Anybody know what spec motors the SA can handle? Brushless?

Gearing is limited unless you mod to take a 48d.p. spur.  I would say it doesn't go low enough for brushed without the mod?  Stock gearing is 8.49:1 and if you can find a 0.4mod 27T pinion it'll go to 7.86:1 according to the manual.

The last SA I had, I ran a 10.5t brushless motor in it using stock gearing. I plan to do the same when I build up another kit.

I swapped to the 48p gear. I used the Team Associated spur which are readily available and you need the matching slipper pads. It really is just plug and play, so its easy to get any gear ratio for it.

The limitation I found was motor shaft length. A Super Stock fits but not a silvercan as the shaft wasn't long enough.

Yep, just go AE style 48p spur gear. 10 secs with a drill bit or reamer and it fits just fine.

Tamico has it for preorder, but I don't know if that makes sense (no idea where you happen to live).

There are people say this buggy is able to use Team Associated B6 series arms.

Is this info correct ?

Surely that would put the car beyond legal width? Though I suppose that wouldn't matter unless your racing

It hasn't officially but I work in the trade so we get inside info. Information supplied direct from Tamiya.

Don’t suppose if you know when we might see the Bullhead back? I kept putting off buying it completely unaware they were going to stop selling it.

Isn’t it strange how I got a brilliant deal when the super astute was re-released back in 2018 (actually got this one back in 2019) because nobody was buying them I think if I remember I got it for £90 and the retailer said he could do it at that price because his suppliers did him a good deal for every 4 he bought they give him 2 free simply because they weren’t shifting (if only he’d waited a few months longer because the pandemic appeared and everything certainly shifted of the shelves then!…….hindsight I suppose) same happened with the bigwig I got it for £145ish I remember because again I was told once the initial batch sold it just sat on the shelf!

Absolutely @Twinfan I’m definitely not bragging about getting it cheap but what strikes me is the super astute can’t be coming back by popular demand because like a lot of the re-releases the initial first run is generally popular then almost everyone who wants one has got one which doesn’t just go for this buggy but the vast amount of re-releases? For example the RC10cc was like gold dust when first launched and big money was paid for them on the secondary market now although they aren’t in production anymore you can still pick them and RRP! Don’t get me wrong it’s brilliant for those people who missed out for various reasons and it is a fantastic buggy and still definitely worth the money they’re asking for it on this release;) it’s such an good buggy to build I’m almost tempted to buy one again just so I can build it again! :D

I think with some of these things Tamiya release them because they can - there are zero development costs so it's just a case of ordering a production run of all the parts, boxes and manuals.  There will always be people like me who missed the last run, and those who want another/spare parts/NIB for a collection etc  B)

Yeah it must be a case of everything is there and away they go! I don’t know if you’ve built one before but it has to be one of my best tamiya builds I’ve done the gearbox is planetary like the OG avante and I’ll easily put it in that build quality!

I've not built one actually, and I've only ordered one for my NIB collection.

Might have to buy two ^_^

If you can afford it then it’s worth it! The more I think about it the more I’m thinking of buying another one because I have a set of hi-caps which DHL lost from tamico and tamico replaced them then 6 months later they appeared (I did contact tamico to pay for them when they arrived)

I know the mechanical improvements make the Super the more sensible re-re, but to my eye the looks of the original Astute are so much more appealing...  I passed on the first batch hoping that they would do the original; since that doesn't seem to be in the cards I'll definitely be picking up one of these (along with a set of re-pro stickers for the Astute...).

Some days I think I'm the only one that likes the 90's-tastic Super Astute box art, :D j/k. The original Astute livery is quite classy however.

You're not alone - I love the Super Astute looks.  Totally 90s and all the better for it - miles better than the original Astute to me.

In the UK you can pre-order them at these UK retailers:-

Modelsport £239.00

The Model Centre £233.00

Time Tunnel £234.00

Model Shop Direct £234.99

I think they all offer free delivery. I've used Modelsport before I can't really comment on the others but they are all reputable.
