47381 Super Astute (due December)

I switched now on my RERE slipper to 48dp for more choices of gearing. Got 6,48:1 now using a Tamiya 48dp pinion with 24t and a spur from TRF201/DN01 with 77t.

Am I missing something - the 47381 Super Astute manual says gear ratio is spur / pinion * 2.59, so 77 / 24 * 2.59 = 8.31:1?

You also need the newer, white clutch pads, because the kit ones have a slightly different shape from DF03 spur gears. So these won´t fit the later TRF201 shape in the spur gears. Only mod is to ream out the hole in the spur from the inch diameter of the 201 out to 5mm with a stepdrill. It is not much to drill out.

TRF201 gives the latest design of the clutch pads:

assembly as before:

left over parts:

This pads are very easy to cut down with scissor. Btw Yokomo ones do fit as well and are told to be the "best" quality material.

Thanks @Twinfan, this is absolutely correct! In my hurry I jumped into the wrong excel table whith a different internal ratio. In the rerelease manual the formula for the gear ratios is displayed.

I finished my build today... finished for now, at least until the outdoor season starts.

Picked up my kit today. I have to mention, this is the VERY FIRST Tamiya kit I ever bought in my entire life : )
The first and only NIB kit ever bevor was the TR-15T which I got on my 12th birthday.

Quiet funny somehow, I should reenact a photo with surpriced face with the kit in my hand just for later in a few years.

One thing I mentioned at first whe I was looking at the box, 1150 gearings for drivetrain not included. Oh dear, why is this necessary ?! :D

Its only for the front wheels you will need additional bearings, the gearbox is fully ballraced and the metal bushings in the suspension arms and steering are more than adequate given their limited rotation.

Yes, I left the metal bushings alone for what you mentioned. I only needed half of all the bearings included in the JazRider bearing kit, because they don't take into account what's already included in the model kit. Of course I find this out after buying two bearing kits for two models, LOL

Oh well, can't hurt to have spares.

It was more like a question to Tamiya to put this four ballbearings and thats fine. Nevermind. ;)

My kits is due from TTP Models tomorrow - very excited to build it!

Had the OG Astute and Super Astute and let them go a long long time ago and regretted it ever since :-(

Just built my Super Astute and next step is paint work.   Going for a light gun metal just to have a different look.

Enjoyed building the kit but Dynastorm is still my favourite.  Hopefully Tamiya give us a Dynastorm ReRe one day so I can  top  up my collection 😅

I think they will, maybe this year, hopefully! Would be awesome, even if it's just an opportunity to get an og Tamiya shell in the thicker, modern polycarbonate

What do we think the price would be? Given the £240ish price of the Super Asute, a sub-£400 for the Dyna Storm would be amazing, but I think something more around the £450-500 could be expected, but then that's sort of 4WD Avante Black/Egress Black territory, so how could they justify the expense.

I think it would be a £400+ kit, especially if they include a pink GT-Tuned motor......

Ah yes, forgot about the motor @Twinfan. That would certainly bump the price up. Yeah I think £450ish is more likely tbh.

Other than the motor though, and given the similar alloy shocks, it's probably nearly about on a par with the Top Force EVO and that was £350.

And regarding all the pink motor shenanigans, nothing other than the original design of the Acto power pink is worthy of going in the car imo!😁

Only two wheel drive though, and FRP not carbon fibre, but an upgraded motor.  I would guess it would come with Hi-Caps too rather than sleeved dampers.

My guess?  Comparing it to a Top Force (non-Evo) plus Hi-Caps and a motor would make it around £350ish, but I think it would command a premium, so I'd say a street price of £399 here in the UK if it ever comes in the near future.

But will it?

@Twinfan I think that is some sound logic. I was thinking it would be close to the Top Force Evo in terms of pricing but I had not considered the pink motor. £399 RRP with some places offering it at £369 is where I feel it will be. Going to be a great kit if it comes for those of us dreaming of one. Wonder if there is anywhere that still has the original Rere priced on their website.... I am off to check.

Great question @Kol__
