Wanted: a great Thunder Shot body painter

Recommended Posts

I have an all 1980s parts including unpainted bodyshell, driver, chassis cover, stickers, etc, Thunder shot that I am keeping as a shelf queen.

I built it up years ago but I have never painted it up because I suck at painting and stickers, I'll do it for runners because the body will take damage at some point anyway. I see the re-re Thunder shot has a pre-painted body but I want this one to be all original.

Is there someone who takes commissions to paint everything, put stickers on, etc, and comes highly recommended? I want box art perfect. While this '80s shell isn't entirely irreplaceable it's pretty close. I'm in the UK, don't want to post the body out of the country.

I have certainly seen mention on these forums in the past of people sending their cars to others for the paint job. For example there was someone on here who did excellent paint jobs of the Wild Willy driver. As well as individuals taking commissions there are also companies that do this sort of thing as a business, for example there are lots of companies that offer hydro dipping of RC car bodies (A quick search of youtube for lexan dipping brought up loads).

Another take is that I have heard some people have found one of the people in their local club was particularly good at painting and would get them to do the paint jobs. So short answer is yes but I cant remember names. I am sure there will be others along to this thread in a little while that can actually suggest some good contacts. Where, roughly, are you located as that may affect who would be able to help?

Hydro dipping rather different from painting but if there's a company that does painting I can't find them.

If local helps then I'm in London but shipping a bodyshell, chassis cover and driver head isn't particularly problematic.

Try searching for things like "lexan painting services". For me that brought up links like

https://www.skinjobsrc.net/

https://www.rccarstars.com/rc-body-painting-service.html

etc I have never used them so this is no recommendation but there are people out there that will take on commissions.

Closer to home I found https://www.facebook.com/PassionRC/ and https://www.facebook.com/sharkfatrccustoms/

Oh and maybe a posting in the general discussions forum section would be a good idea to get more visibility as it isnt really a vintage RC request as such

What country are you in? If you're in NZ (how unlikely is that!) then there are a few people who could do it. Not me though, I suck at painting bodies

Painting is easy with these because you paint the inside. A monkey could do it. Stickers are easy if you use the wet and slide technique.

Congratulations on the most useless and tone deaf reply, an achievement beyond what I thought was possible!

You managed to make incorrect assumptions about what I am aware of and also incorrect assumptions about what I am capable of while also being rude.

I've been building and painting these since the '80s. I know how they work. My request was for someone who is professional level to do a paint/sticker job for me. If you can't answer the question being asked then go annoy someone else.

What I'm telling you this that this shell is so easy to paint and decal, that even a monkey could achieve professional results. This is right at the bottom of the skill level, whereas the sand Scorcher is right at the top. It would be overkill to pay someone to paint a Thunder Shot. You don't even need to spray, as several thin coats with a brush will result in an excellent finish.

That's what you think you're telling me. What you're actually telling me is you are incapable of reading and comprehension.

I have been painting polycarbonate bodies since the '80s, as I said. A few coats of paint is easy, as long as you mask reasonably and let them dry properly.

What I want is someone to do the painting, decals and the driver to perfect levels. Your estimation of difficulty level of this is irrelevant, I know **** well I can't put an iris and pupils on a driver figure when other people can. I can't get the decals on absolutely perfectly first time. I've just painted and stickered a repro body for a runner Thundershot and it looks ok from a few feet away but it is not 100% perfect. The body and decals I have for this one are original '80s, there's only get one shot at doing them 100% perfectly because I can't replace them.

You are not answering the question I asked and you're making a bunch of incorrect assumptions. ****** off and annoy someone else with your "What I'm telling you" self assured obnoxiousness.
