Essential hopups for a runner WR-02?

Recommended Posts

As the title says - what are meaningful upgrades beyond the ball bearings, oil dampers and steel pinion for a runner wr-02?

I was thinking the 54473 wheelie roller set (bling factor 11), the 53301 steel shafts, the 54396 low friction axles but what else have I missed?

No! You will need 54695 instead as the aluminium bridge replaces the U shaft that holds both sides of the gearbox together, without you may split the gearbox in a bad crash.

Will suggest 54587 servo posts as well, I consider these so essential that I have them in both my WR-02s.

Other good to have are 54597 for even more strength and 53141 for better steering.

Meh, you want real bling? Get the YR TA-WR007. 😁

A recent WR-02G I built.

Most of the blings are at the rear.

Thanks, @alvinlwh - I'll have a look at your suggestions! :)

And boy, do I love the Farm King ... :D

I would recommend high torque servo saver! (I basically do that for all my Tamiya cars...)

Honestly beyond bearings and a steel pinion, anything else is only because you really want to imo.

We ran a WW2 as a family and it was fantastic, we only had 1 small suspension component break.

However, if you’re going to buy some ‘shiny’ then, a wheelie bar, servo posts, gearbox bridge and the TL01 stainless steel suspension are a great combo.

CVA’s are a nice add on as well as the high torque servo saver.

Yes, I know ... I tend to swing between "just leave it and go" and the "bring the bling on, baby!" opposites. We'll see where it all lands in the end. I remembered now that I have a Kimborough servo saver in a box .. I'll try that one.

I think this is one of the many positives of Tamiya, you can upgrade nothing at all or go completely bonkers 😂, it’s a personal choice and there isn’t a wrong way to go.

I’m  too tight to buy lots of hop ups, but I do see the benefit of them and I’m not adverse to a bit of ‘shiny’ 😎

Yeah, as much as I love the bling and the extras, I can't spend like the big boys around here. Not complaining, but a broken (Axial) esc and a couple of metal drive shafts for Socky and that's the monthly budget spent, sort of. But as you say, there is space for both ends, and that's the great thing around here. :)

I'd highly recommend the wide willy kit,

Suspension arms and dog bones from a Wild dagger, or TL01B

Makes it a lot more stable and less likely to tip over sideways.
