If I remember well from that period (yes I am that old) both liveries were used during the season. It depended on the country where a race took place. A well known example is the Silk Cut sponsoring as used on the Jaguar XJR racing cars. Sometimes sponsor stickers, sometimes just blocks.

You don't need anything very powerful as the steering forces are minuscule. I like the Hitec D485 as a quality but inexpensive servo. It has the standard 25t output shaft that will fit the kit servo saver, unlike older Hitec servos that were 24t and not supported by Tamiya.

This should be a good example of a one person - one opinion subject though.

Yes, but not great news unfortunately.  I got an email update on 30 November saying that the container has been delayed at sea and that Hobby Company (Tamiya's UK distributor) do not expect delivery to be with them before 20th December.  If so, that would mean that UK sellers may well not be able to dispatch orders until after Christmas.

Has anyone else had any update, similar or otherwise?

Or maybe Tamiya will re-issue the same car with a different livery, like the NewMan Kenwood or Canon.

Hard to say.  It's a 47xxx series car, so limited production, but so was the Fire Dragon, Saint Dragon, Thunder Dragon and there were plenty of them around.

Amain in the USA still has stock (and a 10% sale until tonight). You might be able to get one from them in time for Christmas (although it's getting a bit tight now).

TamiyaUSA has already marked this as discontinued.  So I don't believe there will be a second batch.  I cancelled my TowerHobbies order and purchased from Amain, as I did not want to get burned like the 45th Anniversary kit.  

My recommendation is do not wait.. get yours now while some of these LHS and sites have stock.

UK retailers advised of an original "top-up" batch which was due last week, but has now been delayed until early January.

They've also said that a completely separate batch will follow in March. Hopefully true.

My retailer got let down so I have one coming in early January now (fingers crossed!)

If you are just after the real tobacco brand the new MCI-Racing sheet is OK. But AFAIk it is missing the fuel, tyre and fashion brand logos as well as the crucial Le Mans Class Entry decal.

These are unfortunately not ready yet. Just to give you a preview I have included a lows res version of the class entry sticker and part of it in a much higher resolution. I have recreated the sticker from scratch based on the included real car reference.

I have the fully scaleable vector graphics of all the missing decals incl. tobacco brand, so could do 1:1 scale as well. Just some finishing touches needed.

My kit has the 1280 for rear axle included.

You also need 2x 5x8 for inside the ball diff
