Is it difficult to paint the body?

I have never used spraycans on lexan before, i used Tamiyas lexan paint for brush painting back in the days.

This paint seems no longer available?

I believe that's correct, the brush on is no longer made. The difficulty is in the taping off and avoiding paint bleed. Start with a nicely washed then completely dried shell (I like to use a compact blow duster after paper towels), quality tape, and be sure to run the edges of the tape to make sure they are stuck down good. Then very light coats of spray for first couple coats to avoid bleed, followed by more light to medium until you're happy with coverage. Dark colors then light, just like the old brush on. Get Tamiya "polycarbonate body cleaner" and some precision tip cotton swabs to clean up any mishaps.

I wish they'd do both. Put the Racing livery on the box, but offer the Rothmans decals inside as the alternate livery so everything matches. That way we could get John Player Special liveries too. Call them a "Jimmy Page Special" or some such on the box but give us that sexy back/gold livery.

They did run the 'Racing' logos in many countries that did not allow cigarette advertising(of course booze was fine).  But the low wing LH was only run at Lemans and always had Rothmans logos.   So this livery/wing combo is never correct, even as a 962.  Surprised they skimped on the LM class decals too, not sure why?  And MCI doesn't cover it.   Personally I'm more a fan of the '85 NewMan car.

Got this recently and want to build using Tamiya hop ups and Santa has been good.

Are there any Tamiya upgrades available for the front end beyond replacing the springs and bearings? Info is difficult to find and the chasis doesn’t feature in the Tamiya RC catalogue yet.

Many thanks.

There's the kingpin hop up which puts the spring under the upright, the 4x42mm titanium screws and a high torque servo saver. That's about it for front end hop ups.

If you want to stick with Tamiya hop-ups, you can fit carbon reinforced uprights, steel 5mm ball studs, hardened turnbuckles, reinforced adjusters, a high- torque servo saver, alloy servo saver cap, alloy servo mounts, and blue M4 alloy nuts to keep the front decks and arms in place. I think you can also get titanium coated kingpins for it.

Do you have a part number for these?

What servo mount do you recommend?

53308 if you want plain aluminium, 54587 if you want blue anodizing, and a pack of 53639 spacers to lift them above the lower deck to match the height of the stock plastic ones which are a bit long.

53159 for the flanged ones, 54080 for the non-flanged ones that go right at the front.

Was anybody able already to fit the group C Cockpit displayed some pages ago to the new 956 body? I got both now, but it seems to be a tough job with clearance to the front chassis section. So if anyone already tried this and found a good solution without too much hazzle, I would really like to see the result.;)

Overall, it´s a great kit, I´ve not regretted to fall in the next trap with pan cars...

I am in the process of fitting the repro Group C cockpit. Yes, there is some significant amount of cutting involved.
I should be able to present the result in a couple of days.

Thank you @Olly84. Much appreciated. I even thought of replacing the front roll cage section with a FRP plate to give more room for the cockpit. But this takes away some of the original charme of this chassis...

The 12x8 for the differential are 3.5mm in width?

@TurnipJF got me thinking about the servo posts.

I have a pair of the pink ones, high torque servo saver and special tie rods.

Turn the saver 180° and voilà

So...when I got notification that my UK pre-orders had been delayed I hopped onto the Amain website and picked up one from them.  Didn't want to run the risk of not actually getting one, despite having pre-orders in with two separate UK suppliers.

Anyway, my Amain order safely arrived yesterday from the States:

And should either / both of my UK pre-orders come good then I'll have one / two spare.  Will let folks know if that happens as I'd be delighted to pass both on to a fellow TC member at cost.

Update: looks like both of my UK pre-orders are going to be fulfilled, which is good news.  So if anyone on here missed out on getting one themselves then let me know and I can sort you out. :)

For all those who have already started assembly:
A small error has crept into the manual - page 14, the headlight designations have been reversed.
It is possible that this has not yet been corrected in the first batch of instructions.

The same error in my manual, i got the second batch i think, it arrivied just before christmas.

Seems that Tamico still have a stock of kits. Maybe not so limited release after all?
