Interesting one this, Hobby Co tell me they are all pre-sold already at their end and they can't order more as Tamiya are making a strictly limited run - the UK portion of which will arrive in two deliveries so all dealers will get part delivery initially.  That's the fastest announcement to sell out I've known in nearly 30 years of retailing Tamiya RC.

Yep, add me to the list of those with pre-orders. Put mine in a couple of days ago. 🙌

Irrespective of whether or not it is a limited edition, I'm keen to ensure I manage to get one. Yes I know the MB C11 was a limited edition and that there are still loads to be had even now, but I'd be kicking myself if I waited for the 956 to be released and then be unable to get hold of one.

I don't yet have a Group C or one of the F10X series of cars (have plenty other Porsches on TA02SW, TA03RS, TT01E and TT02 chassis though) so am looking forward to building a chassis I've no prior experience of. 👍🏻Let the hunt for hop ups commence...🤣

Ooft, just seen this post from TTP. Looks like they're all spoken for in the UK... @theshopkeeper sounds like it is indeed the case.

Indeed, I had a little advance warning so have ordered far more than usual, they will sell out but I'm OK for now.  Maybe Tony didn't get that message in time to act.

All Tamiya RC kits that start with the item number 47 are limited release.

The standard range ones tend to start 58

It’s a shame that the release is limited one-I hope I can get one. Hopefully Tamiya will see how popular these cars are and make more of the 956 and other new cars. If they made the 962c as I mentioned  earlier it would be a big seller! Like this comment if you would buy a 962c if they made it.

Am i right in thinking that the chassis for this is identical to the Mercedes that is still available? If you don't care about the body then its worth saving the money and getting the Mercedes?

I don't have a major preference on these bodyshells, although would prefer Jaguar then Porsche then Nissan then Mercedes, so it would make sense to save the money and get the cheapest kit then buy the Jaguar bodyset if it becomes available

As you probably know, the Gr. C chassis can be built with three different wheelbases:

Older version come with a CVA damper, whereas newer versions come with the CVA II.  The Daytona Thunder came with a Dynatech 01R motor, whereas most other versions came with a Sport Tuned. Early kits came with colour coded A-parts (red, blue, green), whereas later kits have black A-parts.  Wing mounts differ according to body. Apart from that, I can't remember any other significant differences from the top of my head.

Plus the Daytona Thunder came with the 0.4 spur gear and pinion hop up. The body mounts had an extension piece too.

For those Porsche nerds amongst us (I'm guessing from your username @RennsportEd that you may be one of us!) there's a nice article from Dec 2022 on the Porsche Innovation website which gives some insight into the story of the 956.

It contains a little tribute to Stefan Bellof who, at the wheel of the 956 in 1983, recorded the then fastest-ever lap of the Nordschleife in the qualifying for the 1,000Km of Nurburgring (he also took the lap record in that race too).  He and the 956 held that record of the fastest outright lap for over 30 years - it took the mighty Porsche 919 Evo and its hybrid technology to finally surpass the 956's pace.

You can find the article here: https://www.porsche.com/stories/innovation/how-the-porsche-956-became-an-endurance-racing-legend/

The new 956 is 1/10 scale, so the RM-01 surely is out of question. Judging by the limited number of new parts listed (wheels, stickers, H-parts and body with headlamp/taillamp inserts) combined with the indication that it's a limited release, my guess is that it's on the Gr. C. Also, since the last re-release of the MB C11, the Gr.C chassis has gained renewed popularity in Japan, including painting and decorating the C11 body to resemble other Gr.C cars, including the 956/962. With this in mind, the release of the new 956 makes quite a bit of sense.

Tamiya needs to make the 962! Look how quickly the pre-sales are selling out. I had hoped that they would have made the high downforce version, as the long tail LeMans version only raced once a year. A 962 would be an even better seller to the 956L!

Includes the Sport Tune!  No ESC though..    I see the C11 came with it as well, so nothing new

  • 1/10 scale R/C model assembly kit. Length: 483mm, width: 207mm, height: 108mm. Wheelbase: 270mm.
  • The distinctive long-tail body, front and rear light cases, and wing are separately molded in polycarbonate.
  • Features black ABS plastic side mirrors and wing stays.
  • Based around an ABS plastic bathtub, with space frames front and rear and FRP plates, the chassis is a composite design that offers a rigid base to back up the fluid suspension: the result is a crisp, responsive driving experience.
  • The model is powered by a Sport-Tuned motor and uses a direct drive setup with spur and pinion gear mated to a ball pressure plate differential for smooth cornering performance.
  • Dish (front) and 5-spoke (rear) wheels are paired with high-grip sponge tires. (Wheels require painting.)
  • Includes 540 Sport Tuned brushed motor.
  • Required to complete: 2-channel radio, servo, ESC, 7.2volt battery with compatible charger, and Tamiya PS paints.

“5 Spoke rear wheels?” The factory issue were 6 spoke magnesium Speedline wheels.

Its reusing the wheels from the 787B kit. Will be nice to have a set of these again as they are typically being sold on ebay for about £80 a set for original ones. If you dont like the 5 spoke wheels you could always put a set of the speediscs on them like the fronts - a number of picks seem to show them running on all four wheels

Just like I would have preferred the high downforce version of the 956 instead of the LeMans version (which only raced once a year) I would have preferred the modeling of the original wheels instead of re-issue of new-old stock, but I accept what we’re getting happily.

Hello everyone!
I also pre-ordered, in France for Italy.
Even though I'm not a real Porsche fan in general, I've always liked this Le Mans version... so I bought it.
I also hope for a driver to be inserted inside... if so, is there anything that can be adapted? Maybe from other models?
