This topic had been brought up now & then,

so.... again ;)

The point is, the server i used for a while to share the

scanned decals i have, took a nose-dive [B)],

in basic, not to be used again.

It is possible (certainly with that new server [;)] [;)] [;)] ) to

upload / share them on tamiyaclub?

It would be an easy enough job to do, but the one thing that currently stops me at the moment is the fact I haven't worked out a way to do it so that it isn't dead easy for some lowlife to come along take them all and make them available on ebay, thus making a profit from our members hard work.

Even making the section subscriber only wouldn't work as £15.00 would be peanuts compared to what the crook would make by selling them on ebay.

Everything else I've been able to watermark so the club at least gets some advertising if people rip our work off, but I obviously would not be able to do this for decals as it would spoil them.

Any ideas?

That is a very tru point (ripping them all)

Did not think of that one,

got me [8D]

As a not-spoiling watermark would be easy to remove

in any photoshop program.

Only one thing pops up in the mind,

limited ammount of complete/ high resolution downloads? "10 a year" or, 1 a month...

(who needs them all, right?)

Who really needs the decal, gets him, but kill's the "making a quick buck" option.

i think [8)] , or maybe somebody else has better/useble sugestion?

If it was a perfect world, it would not be needed,

but it could be a option i surpose.

If you want more downloads, you have to subscribe multiple times,

at least somebody is getting payed then! [:D]

It would become un-economical then to try to download them

all (if more people upload there decal's anyway).

Or, as a 2e option (extra)

Upload 1 decal (a good one), you can download a other one.

Some sort of "trading thing" .

Would need a moderator/judge to see if the uploads/downloads are any good of course before "download points" are given.

Also to keep in mind, some decals need more then one file to download.

As some people have cut them down to fit under the scanner [}:)]

How about the people needing these files for genuine reasons have to contact admin with proof of there credibility, eg, pics of model, or body etc. Dont think folks would mind too much as these decals are hard to come by anyways. seems a small price to pay to finish off a restoration.

What about a maximum Hi-Res download per registered users? And upon reaching the maximum of your quota, a brief review with the admin to reset your counter?

i dont see a way of circumventing the 'rip off' non genuine decal sellers....the 'rip of ' no genuine decals are out there any way....I WOULD HOPE TAMIYA.COM, does not become involved in making the conmens jobs easier...i have just started collecting decal kits, would hate to think that the 1000 quid plus i have spent in my own personal collection would be totally devalued overnight.....this one reason my show room does not show my decal kits in there entirety...

Maybe this is a silly question...

How can someone make a quality imitation from non-mastered, un-vectored, and coarsely scanned originals? Let alone an imitation well enough to fool the keen eyed collector?

I assume that the copies are just that - a copy to take the place of the real artifact !

Posted

Sure I'm no fool, I realise once they are publsihed they will get out into the wild and be sold by someone. Its just making sure I don't make their rip scheme too easy for them.

I'll give it some thought

OCD, you hit the nail on right on its head! [^] Problem isnt the scanning, but the vectorizing and finding a print shop which does it in comparable quality under Tamiyas price, very hard, Chris can confirm.

Yeah, I'm fully aware of the quality/price issue.

I've been talking to a local printer (silk screens wine bottles- really top quality IMO)

about doing some small batches of Tamiya decals. After seeing the process first hand, I

can tell you that A lot of work goes into making masters. I can also tell you that time = money..

quite a lot of that too.[8)]

OCD, tru, it is very hard for the "home grow maker" to

make some decent decals,

if you don't want to mess with vector stuff, you can only

recreate some decals.

Certenly no "big one's" as the (lazer)decal paper out there today

is just bearly up to the task.

Unless you have a original i think it is quite hard to make good copy. (and hours of work)

Exeptions left, like the 1/16 tank decals, quite easy to re-create actually with a home printer. and.

Mad andy, no offence intended, but somebody else his collection

should not be a reason to stop putting them online.

(but, in basic, there still originals, and repro's not)

Not everyone likes to spend a furtune on some sticky-colored paper,

If you want to mod. a decal, you need to work from scan's anyway.

In basic, i would like to smack all of my scanned decals online,

modified one's and originals. "for everyone to use".

Why do the job 2x if you can just copy them off the net!

I do mind if some dodgy ebay seller copy's them and sells on on the

ebay. Can't be bothered to sell them myself, to low profit for

the work ;) ;)

And in the end, for a 100% repro there useless anyway, so why

sell something that you know up front won't work anyway..

(again, mad andy, nothing against your collection, just a other opinion!)

no offense taken...every body has there views, and to be honest, if the decals had been avialble to me in the start, i certainly wouldnt have soo many now....BUT. i cannot find any useful use for a 'so called crappy' copy of a genuine kit, if the decal kit is that hard to find the model u must be trying to restore or 'new build' must surely be worth the extra money involved to finish it properly....i for one, couldnt hold my car or project up in the tc showroom, knowing i have just used copyied stuff to complete it.......BUT THAT IS NEITHER HERE OR THERE.....lol...ffs i am upsetting ppl again...lol....signing off...andy
