I've been setting my M05 up for racing following a guide I found online.  I upgraded to the super mini CVAs which has transformed the handling from the old friction shocks.

I have the 53333 tuned spring set that I'd like to try but the springs seem too short.  Do I make up the difference with the preload collars or should I be limiting the stroke with internal spacers?

The club I will be going to race on carpet so any other tips will be appreciated.

Fill the gap with some pre-load clips, I wouldn't worry about the internal spacers unless if you feel like your M05 needs to sit lower.

Pre-load is misleading misnomer for the clips. You only need to add as many clips as you need to set the ride height to what you want. The springs should never be "pre-loaded". On carpet 5mm of ride height should do.

The internal spacers only adjust droop, although too many internal spacers in combination with springs that are too long would be a backwards way to get stiffer springs or to lower the car...by pre-loading the springs! In practice you should probably leave the dampers at their full length for now; later on you can fine tune droop. 2mm front droop and 3mm rear droop should be a good starting point.
