Xm-01 higher ground clearance

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Been preparing my order for the xm-01, so whats the maximum height it can reach with the uprights at high position and dampers quite high setting?

Is there any set of dampers to make it a little higher that fit directly?

Thanks

I reckon 20mm is definitely possible if you jack everything up.

And next step for extra height which suspension set gives more?

You could get a smidge more suspension down travel on rebound  by not using the o-ring spacer when building the dampers, and a bit more ride height swapping TC shafts into the dampers, or the most easily reversible would be to use the longer shanks on the ends of the damper shafts. However,  it appears to my eye that deviating radically from stock is going to cause a bind/wear situation with regard to the drive shaft contacting the drive cup as the angle of the dangle increases.

These aren't buggies or off road vehicles by any means. The way I look at it, a rock or protrusion large enough to give these trouble would, when expanded from 1:10 scale to 1:1 scale would be a rock or protrusion which would cause the real vehicles enough concern the the driver would work to avoid them so if our cars need a slightly more manicured running surface than a true off road vehicle I'm ok with that.

Of course I would go to xv-02 if real off road would be a race to do...but at most cases it will be flat dirt if not parking lot rally race with one or 2 little jumps...so I think xm will be nice...just to give it a little more height I was wo dering what set of dampers would be ideal

You are running it under standard width body, right? Larger wheels alone will gain around 5mm.

The biggest limitation are always driveshafts. You can get longer dampers and cut into suspension parts, but with 30mm driveshafts, you are limited to around 20-25mm of suspension travel.

I listened to your advice and ordered the tge axles to make it a little wider and fit the corolla 237wb/190width body, so I guess it will fit TC wheels or even rallyblock wheels:) so I guess you are right I ll gain height from there too...

Remember that higher ride height = higher COG.

I am not sure about your idea. You will end up with car which can go through rougher area, but will handle rather bad.
